Drove past this last week and oh look - it's on eBay

Post by Sonia406 »

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PEUGEOT-406-E ... 20d93dfb6f

Be honest boys, how much work will this lot cost? It's a nice 2.2, and being an exec it has the working puddle lights and electric seats...
I drove past it last week and admired it's condition as we went by.... there were no 'for sale' signs on it whatsoever..... Just on the off chance I'm looking on eBay I've found it....

Aye, its the law here to remove and delete the DPF..... May as well have a remap while you are at it.

Will still get 42 - 45 to the gallon out of it after ' tweaking ' should this persuade you at all??

You might need a complete exhaust - the only bit not mentioned is the back box.
You can get a back box and middle pipe for something like £30 each, the potential problem comes with the DPF / CAT flexy section. If you have to replace the cat / flexy, you're only SUPPOSED to be able to buy a 'type approved' cat, which is expensive. You might be able to supply details for a ficticious older 406, to which these rules don't apply, but it still won't be cheap.

I would be surprised if the bit that's broken is part of the DPF assembly, as they're pretty sturdy - it may be it's only the middle pipe snapped off at the clamp. I would go look if it was local.

Not actually mandatory, but you'd have to be a cog or two short not to.

Mines still nudging 46 mpg, (but then I'm known for dawdling).

Hoping Rwb can help me out tomorrow with what's what on these diesels...
Don't care about a back box, want to fit a loud one anyway, but the middle parts are worrying me a tad, my diesels were old school, no dpf, no egr, none of this nonsense!
Hopefully me and Rwb can look at it tomorrow..

Just rember what I said about the ditches ... When I drove past there there was a Clio ass up in a ditch ha

the dpf and cat section is made from stainless and is highly unlikely to be damaged, (one or two people have had issues with the front flexi pipe from turbo to cat, but that is very rare). after the dpf you have the mid section which is a straight through pipe followed by the back box.

180k....

I'd suggest something else. By the time you fix the exhaust, timing belt, water pump etc etc - it will be a 2k excercise. And then you can get a nice 406 for that amount of coin!
