Getting MOT on a car thats sat for a while

Post by FarmerPug »

I am going to sell the clio because its sat since july without driving, its booked in for the MOT test in 3 weeks and i am wondering does the fact it has no tax or insurance mean it can't get an MOT?
I can get it to the testing centre on the back of the hilux, but is allowed to MOT a car with no tax or insurance.

The tax disk expires on April 2014 but as my mum was registered disabled, its a disabled tax disk so where it says the price its £0.00, does that transfer to the next owner or would i need a new disk?

Yes, no problem. You need the MOT to get TAX and insurance anyhow. You can legally drive an unTAXed car to a 'pre-booked' MOT, but you may need temporary insurance to get the car there...
Just book it in and hope for the best.

The new owner will need to sort the TAX themselves as its a different class. DVLA will sort it out.

Miss Pug was on disabled tax for her first few months.
New owner will have to go to a DVLA office and change the tax band and pay for a new tax disk... by rights I think you should return the tax disk yourself... because if they don't go to the DVLA and just use your tax disk you could be fined etc..

Can you get day insurance, just for the mot?
Would save pulling it there and of course with the tax on there just take your mum in the back

Id like to throw 6 months tax on the clio to make it a bit more appetising for the potential buyer, am i right in assuming the 139g/km clio is £140 for a year?

I think we had to do it at the DVLA office because as the new registered keepers we hadn't received the log book yet...

Wow, things must of changed then... When I SORN'd Miss Pug last year I had to send the tex disk back (it was disabled)
When we bought a Volvo (2009) before my daughter qualified for DLA, we had to go to the DVLA office to change it........

Yeah that's true, they ask for the disc's back when a car is sorned. or if a car is un-insured (new rules )
ibought the car off a car dealer with a blown engine, ididnt even know or think of checking the disc until the car
was put back on the road, the car spent many months in bits in the garage until we realised,
ithink there was 6mths left on it when ibinned it back to them,
