406 is reaching the end of it life with me at this rate

Post by dave406 »

Hi all

Merry christmas all! it was a merry one till i opened the door to the pug. The rear drivers foot well is soaked. The front is dry - what can it be.

Im really getting annoyed with this car and it maybe sold very soon after the issues i have had with it

Probably door seals... Or could be coming from the boot. Light clusters are prone to letting water in. Check the spare wheel well.

The clusters work loose, which breaks the seal. Just need to tighten it. Assuming that's your issue. You need to figure out where the water is coming from.

Check this from the Knowledge Base.

Either that or check drain holes in the bottom of the back doors, back door seals for splits and , as suggested, rear lights.

Worst case, go to a cheap jet wash and have a mate jet wash the car while you sit inside and look for water ingress. Put talc around the seals first to highlight any water trails 8)

I agree with the boys, check door seals, could be the window is not doing fully up maybe?
Ginger magic's words of wisdom with the talc trick sounds a damn good idea :)

I know what you mean with leaks, Miss Pug I could never track down. I sealed up the rear light clusters (her leak was in the boot, leaking into the grey trim of the boot, would collect a puddle) and still she leaked....
This black car, yes mechanically it's failing, the drivers foot well had a puddle in and luckily this was one leak I managed to get on top of (once it dried out), blocked sunroof drain for me.... FarmerPug's youtube video helped me to de-clog the bloody drain... I used strimmer wire though, the thickest I could find :)

For what its worth, I spent a couple of days last week finding water leaks on two cars. The first, the water was getting into the car via a missing trim clip at the bottom of the door. Nothing wrong with the drain holes, just too much water getting past the rubber seals on the window glass for them to deal with, so the door filled up to the broken trim clip and ran out between the door and the trim. On the second, the door seal wasn't making a proper seal around the front bottom bend because the rubber was damaged, and had allowed the metal (which does the 'gripping' bit) to corrode allowing the rubber to spread letting water in. Patience and a hose was the only way we found them.

It's a good thing it's not leaked since!
I'll keep my fingers crossed you've sorted it :)

Good Job!
