Car Insurance

Post by gumby6371 »

Had my renewal notice through as it expires on the 14th, paying by direct debit it works out at £470 for the 2.2.
A visit to go compare and got a quote for £381 in total for the exact same cover paying monthly D/D.
Called my current insurer to see if they'd match it and was told the prices are fixed so I promptly cancelled the renewal.

All very pleasant on the phone so no moans about that but I just can't comprehend how the quotes can be so different?

The £90 I saved works virtually covers the 6 month tax I just put on it!

Not really a rant, more a head scratcher :?

Bloody hell I think my V8 bimmer only costs £390 or so, and about £30 of that is as a result of adding the wife as a 2nd driver

Mind you, I have no idea what the book price for mine is...

It seems to me that the two greatest elements to reflect insurance costs are the value of the car and your occupation. I know I saved quite a bit when working as a mechanic by being a 'Consultant Automotive Technician' rather than a 'Motor Mechanic' or a 'Service Receptionist'. Offence history is probably the biggest problem, but then, we all have clean Licences, don't we? So no need to mention that. :cheesy:

Occupation makes such a difference. But it bloody shouldn't, unless you are driving the car as part of your job, not just going to/from work.

One more reason the government needs to reform car insurance.
