E-fags

Post by steve_earwig »

Yes, it's me now with these things. I've been wondering about them for a while and, what with what mjb's had to say on the subject, I'm hoping that they'll help me quit the damn ciggies. The last time I tried to quit ended up with the house upside-down and my wife in tears, so obviosly that's not going to work. The trouble is there's very few available here and what there is has, hitherto, been only available in town (parking parking, mad drivers etc.) I could have ordered them online but I'd no real idea what I was looking at and they seemed to be a bit pricey to take guesses at.

So imagine my delight when the shop it town here started selling them, around 25 quids a pop :? Well bugger me, buy one and see what it's like! So I got one for t'wife, with some of that oily stuff for making clouds - 1 10mg bottle of medium strength tobacco and 1 of low strength menthol ('cos she smokes them disgusting menthol fags, I'd rather smoke horse droppings).

It's one of these http://totaleliquid.co.uk/store/index.p ... uct_id=128 but with an 1100mah battery

Imagine my, well, utter contempt for my chosen country of residence, when I saw how much cheaper they are elsewhere  Never mind, it's got to be worth it, right?

After about a week she seemed to be getting on with it ok and the fags weren't disappearing like they used to, so I thought I'd order myself one. From ebay for 9 quid :? as well as some spare clearomisers 'cos they tend to burn out rather quick (as my wife's did the day they turned up). That took about 4 days to turn up, then we marched down to the shop and bought a load more liquid. I can't actually see the point of tobacco flavour, it's not tobacco so it may as well taste of something nice, right? We got one of all they had, coffee, vanilla, banana and strawberry. Unfortunately they only do the flavours in the mild (11mg I think) and I'm on the maximum strength roll ups of doom, so we also got a bottle of high strength 24mg "USA mix" tobacco flavour to mix with it 50/50.

Trouble is these tiny 10ml bottles are disappearing rather quickly and cost almost 3 quid a pop, so I've been trawling ebay for some more, not necessarily cheaper but with the higher strength so I can have it neat. Sooo I'm looking on ebay but all I can see is "nicotine free". What's the point of that then? I thought these things were all about quitting smoking, I can see that maybe once you'd weaned yourself off nicotine it might be a big step to stop putting something in your mouth and sucking all the time any more (steady at the back there) but to only sell it without? What kind of madness is this? Perhaps they're hoping that people will take it up as a hobby? What kind of vacant mind would want to do something like that?? Or perhaps they're aimed at kids, you know, little Johnny wants to look cool but he knows real ciggies are bad for him so... :frown:

Then I had a thought, I know these liquids have nicotine in them, if I stick the manufacturer (Dekang) in the search box they'll come up and problem solved. Splendid. In it goes, up they come, hoorah! Hold on a mo, no nicotine? What the feck does that say? "In accordance with ebay's policy" WHAT???!!! What in the name of all that's holey have they gone and done that for? Do they want to sell to kids too?

I notice Amazon have a similar policy but the sellers seem to be getting around this by having them come in sizes of low, medium, high, very high and zero.

I also read that the government is thinking about banning efags, on the grounds that, umm, they're, umm, bad for, umm... Oh come on, you know very well why that is, it's because they're making so much tax off of fags but they won't be able to get away with taxing these efags, and because their mates in companies like William Morris and other purveyors of the toxic weed are busily stuffing enormous wads of cash into politician's pockets and they're a bit concerned that all these people they've got nicely hooked on this stuff like me will stop spending a fortune on it and they're a bit nervous, that's why.

I is confused, do you stop smoking fags and just puff an e-fag? I understand the bit about wanting to hold a 'fag' and puff smoke about as that's half the fun but where's the wean-me-off period? or do you use a programme of patches and just puff on e-fags for comfort throughout?

And yes, where my FIL lives in Skegmess guess what all the kids are doing now?

Well, yes, I think mjb said he was only smoking 1 real fag a day now (he's my hero  ) Wean myself off the roll ups onto the e-fags, once this is accomplished I'll start dropping the nicotine content to hopefully zero and... Of course, best laid plans and all that.

I've tried patches, I have a strong suspicion that they're just placebo, that there's not actually anything in them, they just pander to the quitter's perception that they're doing something to help them cope with the withdrawal. And, cynically, charge a fortune for it.

Thing is, having something in my hand that I stick in my gob all the time and blowing clouds of smoke about is just a mental addiction which should (hopefully) be easy to break, it's the nicotine my brain is physically addicted to, not the stained ceiling, not the yellow fingers, not the cheery bomb holes in my t-shirts, not the stretch of M25 inside my lungs, not the inability to do anything physically demanding without getting out of breath, and most definitely not the by-products of combustion floating around in my blood stream getting into tissue cells and jostling my DNA into potentially doing bad things like wildly reproducing odd cells and killing me  Walking about shoving something that looks like a big biro in my gob forever? Pfft, small price to pay.

Oh lordy, how unbelievably stupid  Thankyou ebay, thankyou Amazon. Still, I guess it's better than sticking needles in their arms :supafrisk:

I tried patches and they were great, I stuck one over each eye and couldn't find me fags........Be-dum Tschhh :cheesy:

I see, I think, so you stop or reduce smoking fags and puff on the vapour sticks like a mad man until eventually you don't smoke anymore.

I really hope you can crack it mate you will be so much healthier if you can. They reckon you should put aside the money you would normally spend on fags each day/week and then reward yourself with what you saved. A guy on the Volvo forum worked out (when they weren't arguing) that he spent over £30K on fags :? literally gone up in smoke and knackered his health some.

I would be happy to post some refills/flavours or whatever from the UK if you wanted? I think they do "Fish & Chips" and "Chicken Tikka Masala" ooh and let's not forget "Smoked Bacon" :P :P

I just Googled that, looks like anther of these Chinese cheapy cheapy places, I have a few of them bookmarked, the trouble is it takes from 3 to 5 weeks for stuff to arrive here and I'd rather spend another couple of quid to get stuff I want as soon as. Nice try tho :cheesy: The one I use for these LED bulbs is banggood. I've actually found a UK site that'll send the stuff here so I'll see how that goes.

I'm glad about that, I had a sudden feeling while I was writing that I was talking complete ballcocks  We've been out this afternoon to visit my sis-in-law's grave, bit of shopping, visit my bro-in-law and his ma. 1 real fag smoked and that's despite all the usual bad driving I've encountered.

Oooh, that's very kind of you sir :cheesy: If this place in the UK cocks-up I may very well take you up on that - especially if you can get CTM flavour

This is that place I ordered from http://www.simplyeliquid.co.uk/e-liquids-30ml-10ml so many flavours I don't understand why anyone would want to stick to "stinky fag" flavour. Oh, look, I can suggest a new flavour, job done

I tried one of my brother-in-law's, and all I got was the feeling of oil coating the inside of my mouth.

Ewww :( I guess there are good ones and bad ones (these are cheap so...) and some people just don't get on with them. You can also f*ck up filling them and get some e-likwid in the air tube, first suck after that and it goes straight into your gob.

I forgot to mention when we bought the first one, got it home, filled it, stick in gob, suck = nothing. What's wrong with it? Dunno, where's the instructions? Dammit, they're in forrin, does it say how to turn it on? Umm, no. Maybe it needs charging? Nah, did that already. Google is your friend  Press button 5 times rapidly, it's on.

Getting some negative reactions from friends and relatives - Goran "Guy in the club turned up with one, after a while he got rid of it" (Translation - "one of our big, hairy bikers had one but we all took the piss so he binned it"). Bro-in-law "Those things explode in your mouth!" (translation - "A bloke at the bar said...") Friend Vesna "They're no good." "How do you know?" "I read it on the Internet somewhere." Ahhh, must be true then

I have a mate which "smokes" them - kept him off the fags for a while. Another family friend has been using one for years and hasn't touched a smoke since!

I think the lack of regulation with their sale is posing some issue. From what I heard on the BBC is the amount of kids who don't smoke, getting addicted to the e-cigs. Kinda dumb really!

Rather stupid yes, at least e-fags *should* be much healthier so not killing themselves quite as quickly. On which note, I had a search through open gov or whatever but the only thing I found was talk of regulating the contents as at the moment there could be any old shite in there, legislation's supposed to come in around 2016 which gives us two more years to inhale something terminal. I also saw companies like William Morris and BAT aren't against them any more, they're trying to make their own. I think this is the paper I found (pdf advance warning) - https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/s ... report.pdf
Mortality and morbidity from smoking in adults, children, and the fetus
Foetuses smoke? You'd have thought etc.

No idea how they compare to the refillable/rechargeable jobs but my local pound shop do the ciggy shaped ones that apparantly give about 220 hits (I was about to type 'puffs' and thought better of it).
I keep a couple in the car as I don't smoke in there and they do seem to take the edge off. It stops me getting ash and tobacco everywhere which is a bonus and also avoids that 'oh sh*t' moment when you try and flick your butt out the window while doing 60 (snigger) and it blows back in.
