63 MPG! Well impressed!

Post by fattail95 »

Had my best run ever in terms of MPG the other day on the way to Ashford. Mixed driving, some A roads and some carrageway, and I was rewarded with this!

So I filled the old girl up on V-Power on the way back, and this was the estimated distance till empty

Had no idea it was capable of such impressive figures - well chuffed!

I'm just amazed a car of this size can get such awesome economy. My little 1.1 Clio (RIP) only managed around 50MPG!

If you want real fuel economy;
https://uk.cars.yahoo.com/news/new-brit ... 00342.html
And it can run on chip fat!

To be fair I'm pleased with anything around the 40 MPG mark due to the short, stop/start driving I do so 62 is impressive to me. I'm even more impressed by the average speed as mine is normally in the low 20's.
A couple of trips to the coast planned in the near future so I'll get that warm 50+ feeling back (briefly).

I think that's one of the best I've seen on a 110.

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

HDi90 with a Siemens ECU are probably the most economical of the 406s. Mine would return 70mpg on a good run.

That's impressive for a 110! And if it is anything like any of my 406s have been that figure will be an underestimate.

Certainly better than average. I usually get 60mpg + but I rarely exceed 60mph or 2000rpm. 67.8 over 650 miles coming home from Scotland a couple of years ago was my best, but it was a hot day and I was probably only doing 50 mph at times, shows what they are capable of driven sympathetically. I average a bit over 50 mpg but live in a rural area and rarely do journeys of less that 15 miles.

Shows why they used a 406 for the Record of Longest drive on a tank of fuel http://www.fuelacademy.com/world_record_drives.html

Anything over 60mpg will give you 1000 miles or more to a tankful on a 406 so its not difficult.

Went away on the weekend in the Mondeo. We should have been away for the week but we our accommodation in Bodmin was a pig stye so we came back home on Monday. Both the Missus and I driving my car, not taking it particularly easy.
Managed to drive from Bridgend to Calais, Calais to Brugge, Brugge to Calais, Calais to Bodmin and Bodmin to Bridgend.
We did 1072miles on 67litres of diesel. Works out about 73mpg. 8)

While we were in France and Belgium not once did I get stuck in traffic and not once did I have trouble parking!
I got back to Blighty and within half an hour of getting off the Euro tunnel I got stuck in traffic on the M25 and then a further 2 hours later I got stuck on the A303 TWICE where in just over 2 hours we did about 6 miles.

That's amazing, the best I have managed from my 406 was 67.8 and I thought that was good and that was driving gently.
