I'm going to be going over to Germany in the next month, and considering I will be using a fair amount of autobahn (including unrestricted), I'd like to know what sort of RPM the 2.0 HDi 110 (mapped to 140) likes to sit at, so any ideas on ideal crushing RPM, as well as max cruising RPM (for the unrestricted bits), that would be great. I know the car will happily sit at 95 at 3k RPM with next to no throttle, but is that too high revs for a prolonged period of time?
Many thanks
Benjamin

Nope, it'll be fine. The cooling system is more than up to the jobfattail95 wrote:I know the car will happily sit at 95 at 3k RPM with next to no throttle, but is that too high revs for a prolonged period of time?

Re: Cruising RPM
In terms of engine wear, will 3000rpm cruising have significantly higher wear rates than my usual 2300-2400rpm? Or will there not be much difference?jonsowman wrote:Nope, it'll be fine. Re: Cruising RPM
So little difference that it's entirely negligible. Really nothing at all to worry about if your engine is in good working condition

Re: Cruising RPM
You will have a job to wear one of those engines out however you drive it assuming regular oil changes, preferably at less than 12k. Running at high rpm will reduce the efficiency of the engine so it will use more fuel but I would still think it would give reasonable mpg if no thrashed. I wouldn't like to run it continuously much above 3000rpm though, diesels are much more efficient at around max torque speeds.

Re: Cruising RPM
My aunt and my cousin worked in Germany for a few years and they found the unrestricted bits are rarely unrestricted.
Weather and traffic can bring on temporary limits and don't assume everyone does 120 in the fast lane as most don't.
You may get to put your foot down but keep your eyes well ahead for the overtaking truck ahead.
Sorry for the kill joy post but forewarned etc....

Re: Cruising RPM
I've got an app for this.
My old 2.2 was happy at whatever you could get away with on a french motorway - say 140 kph / 90 mph, at about 2850 rpm, but this would see the oil temp getting fairly warm. The 6 speed gets you to just over 100 at the same revs, but I've yet to stray from these shores wih it.
