Any good Peugeot specialists in or near Preston?

Post by chasesdragons »

Hi all,
Dragged my 1998 406 1.9td home yesterday. It could do with an educated eye being passed over it(!)

Does anyone know of a good Peugeot garage around this neck of the woods who you rate?

Many thanks

To be fair I think it would be well worth travelling to see Jasper.

He's well regarded on this site and done work on many members cars.

When the clutch starts showing wear on my Mondeo I think I'll be driving up from South Wales to get him to do it.

That's two votes in favour. Thank you Bailes.

Uberderv the car doesn't seem to have had the best care. It is LOUD. Has had short trips and is currently only 89k. It has various hoses hanging off and bolts missing, to support a suspicion of regular but unsympathetic service.

It is going to be doing about 26-30k an year, motorway in my hands. And I need it looked at before this to give it a more certain chance of survival.

I think we are looking at front ball joint replacement and a true verification that the clutch and timing belt had been done in the last year or so. The noise might be mistimed or might be the standard noise an XUD9 produces.

And finally I intend to run Waste Veg oil in it as I do in my 1986 Merc 190d.

Hope this helps.

Could possibly identify what the missing parts are if you can take pics, but your probably right that it needs a good butchers at. I've done many thousand miles on WVO in XUD engined cars and they are perfect for it, with a few mods. I used to have a C250td which ran on WVO, lovely car but major problems with the saddle tank setup.

I was planning on a c250 but was worried about any ring gumming issues. The saddle tank i was going to resolve with a switched fuel transfer pump.

As for the pics, you and another member have already sorted one out ( other post re loose hose) thanks. Standby for more!

I am stuck for time for the next two weeks. I will have a chat with Jasper5 about him looking over the car.

Oh yus. It seems to behave slightly better after the first 300 miles this week. I am doing a full filter and oil change on Sunday before another 500 miles, then Jasper5 time.
