Post by trem1 »

I'm surprised it hasnt been mentioned on here already but who's taken part??

I have and i know a few of you from here (actually i can only think of one from here) have as well.
What's your thoughts?? pointless, waste of time, good way to make money for charity.

Personally I think it's a great idea, its a good fun for everyone involved, and gives people a right laugh when they open up their FB news feed! However, I feel a lot of people, especially younger users, use this as an excuse to get 'likes' and don't actually donate at all, which defeats the object. But in terms of raising awareness, its succeeded brilliantly and raised a lot of money.

I think that anything that prompts fund raising is a good thing, but I also feel that there's just too much fundraising going on at the moment. Everywhere you turn someone's got their paw out for money! My problem with the Ice Bucket thingy is that I'm sure that a large proportion of people are doing it for a laugh, or through peer pressure, and not bothering to make a donation

Come on then guys, show us your buckets! (mine's on Farcebook and is currently uploading to Youchoob, link to follow :supafrisk: )

Well done to those of you that took part, especially if you made a donation as well :D

Completely out of the question for me with my heart problems.

My daughter took part, to the great delight of the neighbour's kids. Not knowing what was going on, they assumed it was a water-fight and one of her neighbours was thrilled when a bucket of water landed on the barbie where he was, at the time, cooking steak. She hasn't got a total yet, as money is still coming in due to some being paid at the end of the month.

Indeed, the shock of icy water is enough to cause trauma in some. I guess charitable donations have taken a nose-dive in the last few years when we all tightened our belts for the recession, perhaps giving has stayed low also.

My opinion on the bucket challenge? I think it's stupid. I'd much rather see celebs in particular doing some good directly for local communities and charities not just appearing on FB for a few minutes and going back inside to their luxury property. Likewise the yoofs will soon find a way to make this fad even more pointless and possibly dangerous.

I did a nice charity deal on my Winter Tyres; the lady wanted £240.00 but insisted I gave her 200 and then another 20 to each of two popular charities, I thought that was great and was more than happy to do so.

I'm waiting for the sun to come back out. :supafrisk:

I've been nominated a few times and tbh when I do it, it will be through pressure...None of the people who nominated me knows how much my family do for charity for example to take my kids to sing at charity events costs me £20 to £30 quid a pop.... I've done and am continuing to do my share for various charity's but will do it....
