Hello!

I'm just about to place an order for Engine Oil + Filter for our Astra, it's a 2003 petrol, I've been surprised that the Opie website only offers fully-syn oil? I'm pretty sure the car's only ever had semi-syn through it. I used to get Titan XTR for a good semi-syn or have most moved over to fully-syn now??

I'm usually a bit wary changing to fully-syn after a lifetime of running semi-syn.

Any advice most welcome.

Hi

There is no issue in changing from a semi to a synthetic, but the XTR 5w-30 is a synthetic rather than semi anyway, so if you have been using that, carry on with it. The service packs are based on the manufacturer specs for each car and in some cases that is overkill, but on the other side of things, it won't be harmful. A 5w-30 or 5w-40 synthetic or 5w-30 or 10w-40 semi will be fine for your car.

Cheers

Thanks for the order. That's good from the courier, the standard service is supposed to take 2-3 days.

Cheers

You may be better off going for 5w30 Ford spec oil for that price!

Christ I paid £61 for 10litres of Millers Nanodrive from my local motor factors.

But which one? Different Nanodrive oils are different prices, the 10w-40 Nanodrive EE is £23.99 for 5L, less your 10% members discount.

Mine was 5w30 Ford spec oil.

It's a suitable viscosity for a HDi and as it's an A5/B5 spec oil it exceeds the standards that Peugeot recommend so should be fine in any DW10 or Dw12 engined car.

It comes in at £35 for 5 litres on your website too! Just had a look at my invoice and I paid £31.20inc VAT.

I could beat their price if you were collecting it, but not with delivery.

Yeah, I understand that. I just wanted to point out to the other members that there were alternative 'nanodrive' oils suitable for the HDi engines which work out cheaper.

Bailes you're picking up on £4.00 difference I think, don't forget sometimes it's not worth jumping in your car to go fetch stuff when you can have it delivered. That's how I look at all my online purchases; I can carry on working or doing something useful and someone else does the running around fetching and carrying, means a lot to me.
