Those of you who read the heading with a cocked eyebrow; your suspicions are correct, I did put a similar heading up when I went looking for an XUD9 ENGINED CAR.
Thanks to some really good advice, I located and bought a beautiful low miles 1.9td.....which I promptly destroyed with an alternator belt breaking and going on to take out the cam belt.
I am back on the look out for a 406. I cannot locate a good 1.9td, so my search has expanded to a 2.0hdi.
Today, I went to look at a low miles 09/99 (d9?) 2.0 hdi exec. It is really bad rust on the nearside sill, directly under the b pillar. I would not have spotted it if it was not for this site, thanks.
Despite the horror that it threatens, I really like it. Can anyone please give me an idea of the repairs that this is going to demand? Are there repair panels available and where? I plan to get a Land rover specialist to do the inner sill repair as it will be industrial-strong, but the outer sill might need to be properly shaped for aesthetics? Is the inner sill a complicated pattern?
If there is no panel, I guess I can chop the sill of my scrap d8 and use that as a repair panel?
Is this a bright idea? Any caveats? Am I asking for an automotive kicking, here?
Many thanks
Early 406 D9 diesel buyers guide pls?....

I+m still shocked a 1.9td's aux belt took out the cam belt, I thought that was HDi territory
I'm afraid there aren't any repair panels, there's only the real thing from Pug for $silly money. Taking an angle grinder to your D8's your best bet for the right shape. I would be hesitant in buying that one though, how much more rust/neglect is there?
I presume you've seen Farmerpug's and my pictures taken inside the inner sill, that's as good as you're going to get I reckon.
Oddly enough, I saw a D8 yesterday with the r/h sill rusted out from end to end, I wonder where he gets his MOTs done

It was a shock for me too. I feel so guilty for destroying that poor car. All I had to do was leave it for 12 more hours to let Jasper5 have a look over it before I drove it. Aaaaargh!
Ho hum. I will whip off a length of sill from the 406 before I ditch it. I have a feeling that KLOKERHOLM might still supply panels.
It is otherwise in decent condition. Worryingly being sold by a mechanic!......I am drawn to automotive rust crap and grief like a moth to a flame, I can't help it, I am a Landrover fan
I did see some pics and it hasn't fazed me yet. I also saw a good YouTube video on a sill job by a Finnish owner. We will see how it goes....
