Looks like it will more or less be coming home - first registered in Northampton in the final days of 2003.

Roughly 180 each way - pondering the best route, there's roadworks on the A14 at Kettering & Catthorpe, so I'm thinking across the old A427, (A4304) to M1 J20, then A50/500/51/55 etc.

Good luck today and please try and get some pics of your collection capers and your trouble-free* return.

I have to say that thing looks bloody ace in the pics, I'm beginning to warm to a 2.2 dizzler; waved at by Doggy's magic wand and I reckon at that price they're almost worth stashing as a spare before they all get weighed in.

Yes. It's a nice car.

Only got one pic....

My bro's 406 flotila on manouevres at Liverpool Bay.

Image

Not a bad trip, the traffic was horrendous for the last 5 miles of the A500 leading up to J16/M6 on the way home, but otherwise fine.

The car has many more battle scars than the ebay pics reveal, but nothing serious and it does look pretty tidy. No further faults discovered, other than the plastic ball joint snapped off the swirl flap actuator and the mechanism tied off in the all-8 valves position. Between this and the standard engine setup, it does seem to have poor throttle response and low speed turbo lag, but I think that will disappear when it is 'prepared' for future service. The service history includes a receipt for cambelt kit + water pump, dated December 2012, or about 18k ago.

The interior seems an odd mixture of finishes - black dials with silver rings, silver grey centre console, walnut door cappings, shiny chrome gear knob. Seems you get whatever was left over in the parts bin.

It drives very nicely. A bit quieter than mine and the engine's definitely sweeter, feels nice and taut. Fairly brisk once it gets moving and very comfy. I drove it for roughly 180 miles without finding anything significant amiss. Averaged 48.8 mpg, which I reckon is impressive for a bog standard 2.2 c/w dpf, egr etc.

The plan now is transfer the towbar from his old one and see if we can't 'motivate' it a little. :supafrisk:

That is bloody brill, I can't stop looking at it for some reason. The Estate is definitely the better looking car and still doesn't look out of place today.

Top purchase!

Identical to my old one with all the various colours inside..... does it have silver/chrome interior handles too?

Now you see why I went for ditching the silver bits, replacing the walnut which doesn't go with the tan leather, with the black ash instead.. :cheesy:

Looks good though, I'm a teeny tiny bit jealous... :(
