peugeot/rust/warranty..

Post by lozz »

Hi.
My car is nearly 7 years old and there's rust on the floor.. not too bad but its scabby..
Car came from 'Scotland so 'I presume its been through some really bad winters..
There's also evidence its took some abuse from a serious hail 'storm..but that's something I can live with for now..

Back to this rust issue wouid the 12 year warranty given by PSA on this car against rust still stand..
Or wouid that only be for the original owner..

Ideas..

Ishouidnt see why ishouid have to waxoyl or the likes a car of this age.. :(

Any car should be waxoyled right from delivery and every couple of years after that. Galvanising and zinc primers can only do so much. Most people don't care because they only keep their cars 3-5 years on average.

Depending on how the warranty is worded, you may still be covered. Most rust warranties only cover penetrative rust, not surface rust. I would be worried about the inside state of the rockers, personally.

The Warranty will probably come with all sorts of conditions, like the car must have a full Peugeot service history for one.

You're probably best to do something yourself, at least you know it's done properly then. I can still remember when garages offered to spray the undersides with old engine oil! what a mess that must've been. Not very eco-friendly these days.

Warranty is transferable from one owner to the next, but as far as I am aware, rust warranty is perforation not surface. As to servicing, it can be done anywhere, you can do it yourself if you can prove it was done as per the schedule.

Not necessarily true, Vauxhall "Lifetime"* warranty is only valid for the original purchaser.

Thanks guys..

I'm going to get it treated.. a local garage as quoted me 70 notes.. to clean it up and spray all the underside..

Not sure what's gone on with this car all the exhaust system is corroded too.
I only touched the back box and one of the brackets came off in my hand..

Is it 'salty in Scotland'
