Anyone into bowls?

Post by scotty73 »

Of the crown green kind?
Was given a set by my Nan's friend from Doncaster he no longer needs them and wants the cash so I done some Ebay watching and they wern't selling to well... So thought bugger it £20 start see how it goes...Well it's half way through the 7 day listing and I can't get over the interest they've generated....And mostly from the South Yorkshire area... Ironically where I got them from

What's so special about these then? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221553138303? ... 1555.l2649

I had a go at crown green bowling many years ago (in Lancashire surprisingly enough), quite enjoyed but it's not something that appeals to me as a hobby. Of course we know how to make a flat bowling green down here, but I don't want to play on that either

Good luck with them mate :)

My FIL used to play but got fed up with all the back-biting and snobbery. It's supposed to be a nice little pastime but turns quite nasty and competitive (what? old people being nasty?) it's not for me so I'm out.

As far as I know these folk are normally fussy about their balls and will only buy new (you must have a couple of skin flints looking) and I do recognise the Tommy-whatsit name, they're probably expensive new. I remember we bought FIL a special bowling Polo Shirt and the cost was like HOW     f*cking     MUCH??

Just been on a bowling supplies website and those you've got are about £90.00 per pair (although is says 2-6 WTF is that?) and does not include the small 'jack'.

Here, have a looky, it's so interesting* : http://www.crowngreenbowler.co.uk/epage ... ls/taylors

A lot of people don't actually play the game but they collect them..
Just like old tea pots and stuff..

Do some research on line.. they might be worth more than you think..

It seems a very boring game.. not something I'd ever try..
Perhaps if they had explosive bowls I'd give it a try.. :cheesy:
