Got home to an IMPORTANT LETTER ACTION NEEDED last night, wondering WTF it was on about I tore open the envelope and began reading........Your Dishwasher......there's a component that might......overheat......and we thought we'd better tell you......can you contact us.......we'll change it for free........whilst waiting for our engineer we recommend you do not leave the dishwasher unattended when in use
I put the DW on just before bed normally.
I'll be calling them up today for a convenient* appointment.

I actually feel gutted.
But a bloody Bosch dishwasher and don't get any letters or free parts off them!

We used to have a Hotpoint integrated dishwasher until one day we were suddenly unable to close the door, I took it to bits to find the hinges all twisted out of shape. Some pondering later and we concluded that youngest son had had great fun using it as a springboard, repeatedly . Now we have a Smeg integrated dishwasher
Tell you what though, fitting the new one myself really highlighted what an absolutely shyte job the kitchen fitters did, in fact every time I have to do any job in that kitchen I think the same thing.

No letters from anyone here, it's probably cheaper to let houses burn down than send letters out and they'd get away with it too..

Even more gutted when you realise it wasn't actually made by Bosch.......
So who makes Bosch stuff now? I've actually been scoping a washer and drier lately and half of it seems to be the same stuff with a different label on it, probably all made in the same factory in Poland or Taiwan...
One thing that really annoys me is everything has different models to the UK so I can't compare and check for spares prices in English, apart from Bosch who just seem to have BY on the end of the model numbers here while it's the same number with GB on the end in the UK.
Sorry i might be wrong, I think Bosch made some DW's for Hotpoint at some point (the ones being recalled actually) but that might be to do with whatever components Hotpoint insisted on, I don't know.
To be honest I think apart from the true top brands like Miele everything else is pretty much the same i.e. built down to a price.

And have you seen the price of Miele lately? And they still have the same basic 24 months manufacturer's warranty as most other white goods, anything else you have to pay for, which is again just like most other white goods. Now, if they were guaranteed for 25 years I might be interested but I don't see the point in paying 5x as much for something that almost certainly won't last 5x as long as anything else.
A couple of years ago we worked on a 40 story block of apartments in that London and every Kitchen had a Miele Washing Machine and Wish Dosher......the reason was they won't break/leak/flood the place so they considered it a worthy 'investment' as such. I guess they suit certain risks and business users mostly, like Hotels etc.

I seriously doubt they're all that different. I've given up looking for 'quality' verisons of just about eveything, it's the way of the modern world - you can buy cheaply but you can't buy anything worth hanging onto anymore. No point fighting it.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Your dead right, I think all these appliances are made from very similar components all sourced from limited suppliers, the only difference being the 'perceived' quality and how much money the Shareholders want

The reason it isn't dead is because it was built in 1984 i.e. properly, I bet it cost a bob or two though back then
Makes you laugh this, all this bollox about A-ratings and all these appliances plastered with green pointy arrows but what about the environmental cost of having to replace it every 3 years because it's crapped out your 1984 machine IS the most environmentally friendly machine if you think about it.
