Finishing work 19th Dec for 2 weeks YEEE HAAA

Post by Welly »

The construction industry always has long-ish xmas breaks and it nice to be off work when all your contacts/customers are also off. It is THE ONLY time of the year I get a relaxing break with no-one bothering you and it can't come soon enough.

Wife-Welly works in retail and is only getting a couple of days off, she's even working new-years day

What's everyone else's hols?

I officially finish tommorow but I'm working Monday and Tuesday.
I could work this weekend too but I've worked every day for the last 3 weeks without 1 day off and I've got far too much to do.

We're officially off from the 23rd to the 2nd too, but I've got 2 days leave to take (and it runs calendar year) so I might take next Monday and Tuesday off if I can get everything finished. I'm sure I could carry my hols over but the official company line is "use it or lose it" so it wouldn't be fair to the troops for me to do that, would it?? :supafrisk:

Back on the 2nd won't be a problem 'cos we do half days on Fridays anyway and none of the customers will be there, so it'll be a nice easy half day :cheesy:

You still have POETS days? Are you living in the 1970s?

I'm off, erm, forever. I'm not sure when t'wife is off, she's probably told me but I was probably reading, writing something on a forum or half asleep, she usually waits until such times to tell me important things...

I'll be finishing in the early afternoon of the 24th and back on the 2nd. This is still a major improvemnt on how things were up to about 5 years ago - (we used to treat xmas / new year as a maintenance period and work everyday, including weekends with just xmas day, boxing day & new years day off).

Up to then, I had only had a complete xmas/new year break twice since leaving school.

Hey, get this: my missus told me TWO WEEKS AGO that she "quite liked" an Ostrich-feathered key-ring thing, she even showed me the web page of what it looked like and where one could buy such a thing should they desire, of course I showed about as much interest as any other man would under the circumstances.

Only what she really meant was THIS IS WHAT I WANT YOU TO GET ME FOR CHRISTMAS YOU STUPID MAN.......of course my mind-reading skills have been lacking of late.

Needless to say I have now ordered such a gift which is currently in the lap of the gods as to whether it arrives in time

Wouldn't having your head in the sand for a fortnight have confirmed the ostrich train of thought?

Our last day is Tuesday 23rd then back on Monday 5th. We should of been back in on the Friday but everybody used a holiday from next year.

It's always weird at Christmas as it's the only time of year the machines etc... get turned off. A factory that's normally very noisy is completely silent.

I finished yesterday (although I went in for a couple of hours today to tidy up a couple of things) and aren't back until the 12th -- all to come out of my holiday allowance. I'm taking so long because I have unused holiday (and because I had a bit of a strop about time off in lieu of the 6 day weeks that seem to have become a regular thing). Three weeks will be the longest period that I've ever not been into the office!

The company is closed for the three work days between Christmas and new year, and everyone has to take this out of their holiday allowance. There's a grey area on Christmas eve where anyone in the office slopes off at about 1pm.

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

Snooze button hit three times.

Drags sorry ass up to get ready.

Cereal (not had that for two weeks :? )

Work shoes on (still didn't get those new laces).

Nearly get killed on way to work. Twice.

Eleventy hundred stupid e-mails and the office is f*cking freezing.

Happy new year

Well somebody's gotta earn some money...

'Twas always my favourite time of year, all the festivities over and it's back to reality with a bump, crappy weather and no chance of another Bank Holiday for months.

Although the next one here is Three Kings which is, erm, tomorrow

I mustard mit it was only once xmas day and bloody new years eve was over that I started to enjoy the holiday.

New years eve we made an excuse to avoid a party with some friends* and stayed in for a 'normal' evening by ourselves. I see NYE as a sort of enforced happiness and all that bloody "next year we'll definitely" and "things will be different" bollocks drives me up the wall.

In other news I appear to have gained some additional fat around my midriff sparking the usual "must cut down on, and must exercise more" empty promises :supafrisk:

Swimming's good. Sadly, our nearest pool is an hour's drive away. There was one nearer but it was closed by politics, it was open air too.

Christmas day - after a couple of church services in the morning we left it to see how Ivan (bro-in-law) was coping, he was doing ok considering and wanted to head off to have lunch with his ma and pa at the care home so we sloped off home and had a normal day.

NYE - I'd have had an early night but it would've been impossible with the blitz going on outside. Loadsacrap on the telly as you'd expect but we found one channel showing back-to-back CSIs with no commercials (!) so we watched that until the ceasefire.
