I'm not really sure I would put Peugeot as one of the most brilliant and innovative carmakers in history.

Historically, Peugeots have been stout, dependable and affordable for the common man, but I wouldn't say they've had lots of innovative ideas. More along the lines of sticking with what works. Newer Peugeots (post-RWD) carried this on up until the 406, then everything became a bit dreary and now they're back on form with the x08 models. Nothing that'll set your pants on fire, but dependable and comfortable cars for even money that'll outhandle most other cars on the road.

Of the (surviving) French carmakers, Citroën has always struck me as the most innovative. But they're PSA now, anyway.

The best French carmaker will always be Delahaye, however.

When I think of Peugeot I think of 'good' Diesel Engines, the sort of Engines that finally made Diesel-Engined Cars attractive, I don't think we've looked back since.

Also I would think about their unique styling and the historic comfort/ride characteristics and not forgetting how tough the old 505 was.

I remember in the 80's/90's when cars had a sort of hierarchy of trim levels Peugeot would throw in loads of extra stuff your average Vauxhall or Ford buyer could only dream of. Remember when 405's came with 'free' Air Conditioning? that sent the motoring world into a spin for sure.

Maybe its these sort of things they're celebrating in the show?

Clarkson is on record on some previous Top Gear as referring to Peugeots as old mens' cars.
I think he was talking about almost anything within the last 10 years.
Which rather coincides with my views, with the exception of the ...
RCX, RGX ?
That looks a real screamer.

The RCZ, I think you're meaning

I know he referred to the 406 Coupe as "beautiful" several times, but sort of grudgingly, like he was saying "yes it's nice looking but it's a PEUGEOT, urrrgggh". Never mind the fact that it drives well, is comfortable, has a big boot, and is generally quite reliable, really, despite the "German engineering = best, French stuff will fall apart and die on its way out of the forecourt" propaganda/myth.

Peugeot in my opinion have always been France's sensible car brand, renault and citroen have always been free to go a bit looney and make some interesting cars, peugeot at least the older ones were just rugged and simple, before they got overly obsessed with multiplexed wiring.

But there is some innovations: they definitely helped a lot with diesels, they were good at making suspension that provided good handling but took up less space.

But I supsect the top gear feature will focus quite a bit on the much older peugeots such as the 402 which had the first folding hardtop, perhaps colombos 403 was innovative, there is the fact that it's one of the worlds oldest car companies, I would say second oldest but fear a QI style buzzer going off.

I think it must be one of the longest-running continuous production car makers. Since the 1890s, but began building 'one-offs' before then.

Oh noes, JC has been suspended by the BBC for a 'Fracas' with a producer.

No TG this Sunday as a result and (according to the internet) the final 2 episodes have been pulled subject to the Fracas investigation. Apparently the incident was over a lack of Catering on location after a days filming

I know people have different opinions about JC but I like him. I don't take him too seriously and I don't think he takes himself too seriously either so I find him easy to watch.

I also like Mike Brewer where almost everyone else doesn't seem to :?

I used to find him amusing and entertaining, but much less so in recent years.

Perhaps he will find alternative employment with the Ramblers Association, Peugeot UK, TDOC, or one of the many other groups who hold him in equally high esteem?

He's more entertaining than 99% of other people on TV, not mentioning the BBC. Only Attenborough can hold my attention as well as Clarkson does.

I like him although I can understand why many people think he's a cock. Hell, being a Welsh, cycling, (former) Peugeot driver I have plenty of reason to be offended by him but people don't understand that all the controversial bollocks he spouts is for entertainment, it's an offensive, controversial and non-pc persona that's made him very rich. He knows that many people think he's a cock and he just doesn't care, in fact he encourages it and that's why he's so entertaining.

I hope they don't cancel TG, that's the only thing on the BBC worth watching!

I look forward to Sunday nights from about Thursday. I get left alone to watch TG by the two females in my life, what will I do this Sunday?

If the BBC are watching I want it back on, now, ok?
