Top Gear's back this Sunday 25th Jan

Post by Welly »

Just read a preview of the show and they're doing a special on Peugeot (don't know which episode yet).

"and you get plenty of time to admire their work while stuck behind them on a fast bit of A road."

Ahhh the 504. We had one of those when I was a kid.... Perfect for long journeys to Cornwall with a row of seats each for me and my sister, plus loads of boot space.

I rented an almost new 205 GTI back in the mid '80's. A real eye-opener
for me. Fast, precise handling, and I loved the suppleness of the suspension.

Much of what I like about the 406.

I do love this programme. It's stupid but it is entertaining :cheesy:

Indeed, I know it's "love it or hate it", but I love it! Can't wait :cheesy:

I watched the Argentina special and really enjoyed it. It seems James and Jeremy have a much stronger bond than I've seen before. The show is almost more about friendships and being a man than Cars :)

I watched the BBC iPlayer 'An Evening With Top Gear' last night. It is a bit of a 'taster' for the new series. Interesting.

Yeah I watched that, looks good. Interesting about it being simulcast around the world, the global audience is enormous.

I can understand people not liking it though, but lots of people have preconceived ideas or just dislike Clarkson. My FIL resisted it for years but I kinda forced a couple of episodes on him on Dave (he's sitting in my house he can watch what I want) and he thoroughly enjoyed them. So now he watches it.

I do get annoyed with these people who say "it's not a car show" or "there's no consumer advice for normal people". It stopped being a consumer car show many years back and there are other shows for that stuff. Top Gear is an entertainment show with a car theme, and as such I think its brilliant :D

Have you seen Top Gear USA? The presenters try to emulate our guys but just come across as crass and sarcastic, they just can't carry it off love 'em

I've never missed an episode of top gear, I've usually enjoyed, the Argentina special was good but in some of the challenges the cars they use are a bit too nice to be abusing, eg the mini in the India special.
Still can't wait to see the Peugeot special, it would be great to see a 305 on top gear :cheesy:

If they've not already been in touch with Frank, the odds are against a 305 appearing, since he's kinda cornered the market. :P

Still, you never know.

My money's on 205/309 GTi's featuring, with maybe a 205T16 appearance. Possibly even a 406 coupe?

As others have said, Peugeot / Citroen brought decent diesel performance and refinement to the market with the XUD and in my view are still make among the best oil burners, if not the best, today. Doubt that'll get a mention.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)
