Top Gear and those 406's

Post by Welly »

Did you see TG last night? they bashed one 406 out of the way and used another to demonstrate poor driving skills.

I thought this would raise a few eye brows on here.

Yes I did notice that! Impossible to know what condition that green one was in, could've been beyond all repair.

They didn't damage the silver one though, which actually looked quite nice.

I too was expecting to log on to find a thread on this... Still waiting for the "Peugeot is amazing" episode. Perhaps this was their attempt at placating the "Peugeot drivers are slow old codgers" camp before they air it..

I saw that bit of the program too, (unusual for me) and was anticipating a little righteous indignation today.

Personally, this 'slow old codger' is past caring.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

I laughed so much at Richard's Ambulance when it hopped between the speed humps I had tears rolling....so much so I rewound it and called Mrs_Welly to come and watch.......imagine my disappointment when she barely raised a smile and then shuffled off to do something important* elsewhere at Welly Towers.

The D9 looked quite tidy but then i suppose it was just loose change for tg to buy it, the silver one with the bad driver must have been a diesel it gave a good puff of black smoke when it drove off.
I dont understand the bad drivers in peugeot that top gear has made reference to a few times in the past, and if they were going to make fun of peugeot it should have been with one of the properly crap ones like a 307.

The only terribly-driven Peugeots I've had to put up with are the Barry Boy types in highly modded (read: ruined) 206s. You can tell it's them because when they rev the tits off the poor 1.2 motor to get it to go past you, you look over to the side and see the top of a baseball cap and nothing else of the driver, because his arse is on the floor.

Jeremy has remarked many times that he finds it extremely funny that Top Gear is "the world's highest rated factual program", because it really isn't factual at all.

I figure all the cars they destroy on the program are worn out bangers that won't pass MOT without major work that isn't worth it. Those 406s probably had north of 500K km and bad sill rust anyway.

Edit: The D9 looked quite sorry for itself. The hood wasn't fitting properly, trim was missing and it'd been bashed on the rear passenger door, the rear bumper and the rear quarter panel.

The D8 looked a lot less worn, but that big cloud of black smoke can't be a good sign.
