Black Wheels - peoples opinions?

Post by Welly »

What do you think of modern cars with Black Wheels? I had the brief pleasure* of a 64 plate Bini being on my drive yesterday; it was Black with Black wheels and I thought it looked sh*t. It looked like it was filthy to me when it was actually clean :?

Black wheels remind me of when most cars had wheel trimz and when they fell off you were left with black steelies (and scabby ones at that).

I can kinda forgive Winter sets being black but I just can't get out of my head that wheels should be Silver. What say you?

For me it depends on the colour and styling of the car.
Light coloured cars with black wheels can look good but like you say can also looking awful.
I've seen a few cars lately with polished/brushed aluminium with black inserts which do look very nice, I was looking at the big Kia saloon (name escapes me) yesterday and it actually looks a nice motor, at least from the outside it does.

Kia Karcass?

Steelies or alloys? Steelies - wheel trims fallen off/stolen, alloys - "I'm ashamed of my wheels". Could be worse, could be gold...

I always liked the Reliant Scimitar wheels. Silver with a chrome ring.

Dont like the black wheels at all,no matter what type they are because black color really hides their shape and size.

The first time I saw them I assumed the car was an old banger with no wheel trims - my opinion hasn't changed.

I'm with Gumby, if the car is a good shape, nice colour then black wheels can look nice - providing the black is a proper glossy finish. A chrome rim is nice too.....

Otherwise, black wheels are naff.

Ive got dark grey wheels on my subaru they look quite nice, and match the 1990s two tone colour shceme where the lower half of the car is grey, But black wheels on a 1.2 corsa do look a bit silly.

I had a Pug 206 pull out on me yesterday, the whole car was painted some dingy black with all removable bits of trim painted orange. The wheels? Half dingy black, half orange. I really should get a picture of it...
