I suspect it's only a matter of time.

Did you know that Porsche are owned by VW?

Ironically the reason was that Porsche were required to make an economical shitty car (like what Aston Martin had to do) to be 'green' and friendly and all that sh*t. So under VW's ownership they get the crappy little cars in the package, reluctantly I would guess, and in return VW get all Porsche's R&D of which they do a load of.

I kind of assumed they were because the Pork/Vag dealerships are together here.

How's the working out for them? Maybe Porch were relying on VW to sort the emissions stuff out. Oh dear.

Did you know that Dr. Ferdinand Porsche designed the first car VW ever made? He was also one of the founding members of the Volkswagen company. The car (which eventually became the Beetle) was originally called the Porsche Type 60.

Given those facts, it's probably not entirely surprising that VW and Porsche are bedfellows. Both companies are probably "satisfied with such an efficient partnership", or whatever the German equivalent of "it's fantastic!" is.

It's more surprising (and possibly embarrassing) for Ferrari to be owned by Fiat; if anything, you'd expect the guys in the sharp Italian suits who design the fancy sports cars they sell for $$$$$ to wealthy Arabs to own the company that mass-produces little cars for the common folk.

VAG owns the following "live" brands:
- Audi
- Bentley
- Ducati
- Lamborghini
- MAN
- Porsche
- Scania
- SEAT
- Skoda
- Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles
- Volkswagen Passenger Cars
2002 (D9) Peugeot 406 Coupe SE, 2.2 litre Petrol. Scarlet Red/Rouge Ecarlate/Rosso Scarlatto. Black Leather interior. SOLD :(

I thought everyone knew that.

Did you know Porsche didn't design the Panzer 6/Tiger 1? Everyone keeps telling me he did but it aint so. He was designing in competition with Henschel. Porche's design (type 101) featured a diesel engine running two electric motors (yes, diesel-electric!). On Hitler's birthday in 1942 both tanks were presented to der fuhrer and put through their paces, whereupon Porsche's tank burst into flames. The contract went to Henschel.

I wonder just how much of a litigationfest this could turn into - the Yanks and Canadians are going to force recalls and impose fines.
Only a matter of time before other nations follow suit.
Will these cars wind up in higher road tax brackets as a result?
Then there's the prickly issue of the car no longer being as it was sold......
Were you miss-sold PPI or a VW at an time in the last 6-7 years?

I can see them going under or getting re-branded a la Townsend Thoresen morphing into P&O European Ferries following the Zeebrugge disaster.
(My bro still calls them "Zeebrugge Ferries").

Read on another forum, and it's a very good point, but don't you think all the other manufacturers have kept very quiet about all this? :supafrisk:

If I was a squeaky-clean manufacturer, say, Welly Motor Corporation I'd be making sure EVERYONE knows my cars are not doctored like this and I'd be doing it right now.

Or maybe you'd take the view that the likelihood of you getting caught out for a much less serious, unintentional infringement of the rules is so great at the present moment that keeping your head below the parapet sounds like a good idea.

All manufacturers would carefully weigh up the potential benefits and risks before saying anything and would probably judge it not worth the risk - even if they are squeaky clean, slagging VW might not be good PR. (Rest assured they will have drawn up an official response on this question if asked).

I'm wondering whether the DVLA will be sending letters to VW owners to say your £30 a year car will cost you £200 from now on???

There is also the question of owners who've had a car for a few years can now take it back to VW and ask for a full refund as they were miss sold a car due to it's advertised eco credentials. Sale of goods act covers the buyer surely???

Hmm, so what about all the other VW brands that use the same engines as Pissats and Glofs like Aldis and Seats? Aren't they in the same eco-crisis boat?

See Mr. Style's 2nd link, Aldis are also affected but not seats - maybe because they're so bargain basement they don't have enough electonickery to fiddle with...
