Advantages of a Scruffy 406....

Post by trufflehunt »

... on rural Somerset back roads.

I just don't know why it is really, but when I'm gently wending my way home,
I never seem to encounter any problems with posh, gleaming, expensive cars
arguing the point about whose right of way it is.

Conversely tough it'd be your 406 that would end up the most difficult and expensive fix if you had a scuffle with someone; apart from they wouldn't actually fix it of course....

I know what you mean though, a bit like driving a Van which had the same effect.

A little while ago, some lady in a Fiat Panda drove into the side of my 406 during a badly planned overtaking maneuver on her part. Both doors on the left side were dented and scratched. I just got it back from the dent repair and paint place yesterday, and it's looking absolutely perfect now.

Dents fixed, newly repainted doors (and front left wing panel for colour matching) and all-new trim installed, which was awesome since it had a cheap 3rd-party replacement on the driver's door when I got it.

£1200  (Which will go on her insurance, obviously)

The great thing about 406's apart from being cheap and brilliant is that there are loads of doors and wings available from the scrap yards usually you can find one in the correct colour.

We also have narrow lanes and the behaviour of some people you meet is quite entertaining, its usually fairly obvious if they are not used to country lanes when you see the look of panic they display when meeting you, we just drive of onto the grass or mud if the road is wide enough, without even slowing down, they just sit there. The worst offenders are drivers of 4WD's, they flatly refuse to get their tyres dirty and just stop in the middle of the road.
