Hello mate!

I still call in regularly but unfortunately the forum has become very quiet as presumably the number of 406's out there dwindles (either that or they're so good nothing ever goes wrong with them) :)

I'm sure you had a Passatt last time you were here? I've still got the Volvo (had it 7 years now :o ).

Hi Welly & Doggy,

Nice to hear from you both.

Welly, I had the Passat until 2013, when I got my first new car on order the Golf. Picked it up March 2014 & it's been a pleasure to drive.

Currently running a stage 1 remap. 220 bhp & 500nm of torque. Midrange shove is amazing.

Just spotted you are looking at Mercs. I'm looking at moving to a Merc/ another VW next year.

My 407 is relatively OK, though the flipping heater flaps broke again!

Too much going on in my life at the moment to pay attention to cars, so I dedicating what little time I have to myself to my other hobby - satellite TV feed hunting/plane plotting etc. Currently in process of installing a dual-axis controlled 1.8m dish (a Channel Master, if anyone wants to know) and soon-to-be added LNB rotator for those quick LNB changes.

Hi CJ, I remember seeing your thread on repairing this.

The oldest car we own is 10yrs this year. And it's the most impresive car I have owned. Golf for fun. Usually seats just myself, Monday to Friday. And the X-Trail for the w-end.

Hi Jasper, always liked the Golf's. Had a mk1 mk 2 & mk 3, but moved onto Pugs and never looked back

I was fortunate to be able to afford a new car & decided to go for a brand new car. Again a Golf  The MK 7 Golf is by far the best 5 door hatch money can buy. But it comes at a cost. The GTD is a great hot hatch & the remap makes the car complete.

Mrs Rappy has an X-Trail I drive at the w-end. And Ok the build quality is not the best, but what it does is tick every box & is so, so reliable.

Sorry to butt in but what's happened with all the VAG emissions capers? it's all gone a bit quiet?

I thought owners were being asked to bring their cars in for a recall and I'd heard the car would likely suffer worse performance and mpg's as the emissions get strangled down?

Euro 5 only, so my old Passat would be part of the recall.

The new Vw's are euro 6. Lots of info last year on this & surprise, surprise. All manufatures are telling porkies. Even the euro 6 are higher. I think Merc were the worst, followed by Ford Volvo then VW.

Will try and dig out the article.

The Golf is a good car!
My son borrowed my 406 estate to go into town but hated it!

The X Trail is a good car now they sorted the turbo problems....strangely, they can have handbrake problems, but as with the 406, the solution is correct adjustment.
