MOT history gap

Post by grasmere59 »

I'm looking at a replacement for my 406 and started a thread about that but i went to look at a 2010 Mondeo 2.2 Titanium x sport estate today,it was a nice car that needed a little bit of tlc but when you go on the gov MOT history check it has history 2013-14-15-17-18 but no 2016,why could that be do you reckon? the history shows consistant and normally around the same month of the year but no 2016,it jumps 20k miles from 2105-2017 which seems about right for average mileage. :?

Off the road.., SORNED..? Some nightmare problem that the owner couldn't get to the bottom of for ages..?

When I look at the DVLA MOT histories I tend to screen out the cars that have long gaps like that, also the ones that repeatedly
have advisories and fails for worn tyres, on the basis that if they're too lazy to check the state of the tyres... do you really think
they're likely to have been very religious about oil changes, fllters...?

Did you ask the seller why the gap..?

The gap was before they had it,it seemed to average 10k a year since it was 3 years old and over the gap it 20k so it was probably on the road during the missing year,i know a while back when i mot'd my Pug the system was down and i had to have a hand written temp certificate and when the system was back up the tester would then enter the details onto the system, perhaps something similar happened and it wasn't entered onto the system, someone said perhaps it had a private plate on that year and it won't show up on the original reg number but i don't think that works.

I reckon the owner missed the MOT in 2016, forgot about it basically, there's no reminders for MOT's (I think there should be though) so he drove around unaware of the issue.

You could easily drive around for a year and not get picked up on an ANPR important enough to get stopped.

My daughter did a week's work experience with the police and said the in-car ANPR thing was constantly alerting of No Insurance, No Tax etc etc but what do you do? stop everyone? you'd be tied up in paperwork for years.

I think your right, I think if I want one in the condition I'm after I'm going to have to raise my budget or just keep the 406
