2000 406 Estate 2.0 Hdi 110 exec - Flat spot/intermittent turbo lag

Post by Bolteyes82 »

Hi new to the forum but big fan of the 406 HDi have an exec model estate on 230k perfect in everyway except it’s developed a flat spot which is intermittent and feels like turbo lag.....

No fault codes and MIL active......

Has anyone had this? Or have any ideas?

Hi & welcome aboard. 8)

Mass Air Flow sensor is the usual suspect. With the 110 engine you can simply unplug it & see if it improves things as a cheap first diagnostic step.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

I agree, the MAF sensor is the usual culprit, however I suspect a sticking EGR valve may also have a similar effect. This can be temporarily disabled to eliminate it as faulty.
I would try injector cleaner and super diesel for a few tank fulls too - given the mileage, just to see if it feels any different.
