K&N Replacement Filter.....

Post by ThePrisoner »

Well the results are conclusive.

I replaced my standard OEM air filter with a K&N direct replacement. After eventually getting the screws undone to my airbox and emptying all of the dead flies and leaves out of it (car has just been sevices by Peugeot and I find it hard to believe that so many flies and leaves have got into the fiter system so quickly, the lazy bastards!) I removed the OEM filter.

The K&N direct replacement filter is a lot smaller in depth (I assume for greater airflow) and fits nice and snug in the airbox.

Re-fitted the airbox bits. Took the car out for a spin today, and my god its awesome.

You can instantly feel the difference, the lower end power and acceleration is greatly improved and, there is a slight increase in engine roar as more air is sucked into the engine.

Best £40 I have ever spent, and I will never need another air filter ever again.

Not sure about my fuel consumption, whether it will improve (as I was informed) or whether it will drop, but who cares, it sounds great and goes awesome!

Along with my now regular use of Shell V-Power it has made a huge improvement. Next i'm going to replace the spark plugs with Bosch Super 4's and put on a Scorpion performance backbox. Im also gonna see what else I can replace under the bonnet for small power gains.

Buy One!

(Oh forgot to add, my 406 is obviously a 2.0 Petrol so it might make a difference what engine you have and what difference you notice, but you knew that!)

Already have one on my diesel. Not sure what difference it made though with exception of a louder noise. But I am guessing with turbos it doesn't matter as much as with NA petrols.

Nice one Pris.

I have been thinking about making a heath robinson replacement element for my HDi.

I made one for my 160BHP Honda and it was ubber cool 8) and very well made I might add.

Pipercross made a mistake on my order and sent me f*cking loads of their filter media so I might have a go soon. The difficult part is retaining the rubber seal where it sits in the box.

Try using K&N grease to seal the filter with the box, and the rubber with the filter media.

Installed it, .... it does made a loud roar if you floored the pedal! but for performance, i experience small difference on higher rpm around 3000 - 4000. it does gives you the 'bite' but not enough for me.

to top it up, you'll need better spark plugs, and maybe for a more low end performance you'll need performance exhaust and manifold.

Might want to rethink the Bosch's Pris - i did hear that they encourage pre ignition on pugs and that Denso or NGK iridiums are a better way to go and the price is pretty close to the Bosch's - again only what i've heard ;-)

I had a set of super 4's on my last car and I had nothing but trouble. Took the set I bought back and got another set and again had the same problems. In the end I went back and used my old set of Denso's from the previous year and had no problems and sold the car with them still in.

I have also read that the super 4's had a lot of problems.

I remember reading somewhere that the 406 petrol is very sensitive to the plug types and you'd better stick to OE ones.

Some after market ones can interfere with the BSi if I recall?

Ok i'll scrap the idea of Super 4 plugs then, don't want to do anything to the car that is likely to casue me any grief, it just aint worth the hassle.

Cheers chaps.

Better explain to the missus that i'm just about to fork out on a rear scorpion backbox then.... I might have to bend the truth on how much it costs though.

What like it's a typing error on ebay and should read £16.00 rather than £160.00.

Maybe you read it from my post, welly ! I read the article on local newspaper after several report of 'miss'-reading trip by the trip computer. The Plug MUST have a resistor to work well with the 406 engine (no report on other model), otherwise (if i'm not mistaken) the information sent to the trip computer will go wrong.

one of the issue found after a customer changed the plug WITHOUT the resistor, their milage was 170.000 when it first came into the shop (not a peugeot authorized service center) after a few days the milage reads over 600.000 (IN A FEW DAYS!!!). the customer went to peugeot and they (pug) said there's no way to 'roll back' the milage where the only option is to buy A NEW TRIP COMPUTER!

about 4 - 5 different stories but same issue reported on the news paper.

So .... thinking on getting a performance spark plug ?!! :cheesy:

I just got a cheapass set of Bosch from Halfrauds and I've not had a problem with them, in fact they improved economy slightly :D

I'll stick to OEM then
I hate loud engines and think mine is too loud as is.
