Your Next Vehicle?

Post by ThePrisoner »

406's wont last forever and the even the D9's are starting to age now with the arrival of the 407 and other big executve cars.

Eventually cars get written off, they become too expensive to reapir etc...

We might replace are current 406 with another one, but when the 406 time is really up, what car do you think you would own next?

My choice would be between a brand new 407 Coupe 3.0 V6
or the cheap option of a Skoda Fabia vRS.

Coupe 406, saloon/coop 407 or a Beemer of some description (probably a nice luxurious 5 series)
2003 - 2008: 1998 Peugeot 406 2.1 TD 110bhp LX Saloon
2008 - 2009: 2004 Honda Accord 2.2 CDTI 136bhp Executive Saloon
2009 - 2013: 2002 Peugeot 406 2.0 HDI 110bhp Executive Saloon
2013 - 2021: 2007 Peugeot 407 2.2 HDI 170bhp Executive Saloon (mapped to 213bhp )
2021 - ????: 2016 Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi 180bhp Titanium

I'm knocking cars on the head for a few years and buying a Harley... eventually! Starting with a 125cc cruiser first after doing my CBT then doing the Direct Access Scheme and buying a Harley-Davidson VRSCDX Night Rod Special.

Can't think beyond 406 to be honest. New cars are getting scarey and expensive with the amount of electronics / computer control. The 406 has enough of them now as it is.

Also, not that fussed on any other designs at the moment. I used to like the 407, but now I'm not 100%. I can't see beyond Peugeot electrics.

Thing is I really want at least a 3.0 V6 lump next, and I may look at converting my saloon next year from a 2.0 to a 3.0 V6.

But I also quite like the look of the 406 coop. The coops are still quite popular and hold their money well, and I doubt i'll find a really nice one with low milegae in a couple of years when i'm ready to trade up.

Decisions....

I know it's just a mondeo..... but the only thing on the road at the moment that I fancy would be a Jag X type estate (obviously the V6 4WD version with every toy in the book :cheesy:)

...or maybe a BMW 5 series estate :?

Good question.

Here's the thing, if I was tight for cash and needed a cheap, but decent, car I would definately try and pick up a D8 Petrol Turbo - no really I would.

However, if I had some decent money to spend I would go BMW/AUDI. These would give a quality bonus but the BM would have to be chosen wisely cos they can make you look a w**ker and the Audi's are not the best 'Drivers' cars out there :|

f*ck it, I think I would go for a Vauxhall Monaro V8 :P

As you can tell I don't know. I would hanker after a high quality interior BUT I would want a powerfull but tidy handling car too.

Pris - Don't try to convert yours to a V6 it would be more trouble than it's worth. Just buy one that is already a V6 and be done with it.

the only thing the X type shares with the Mondeo is the floorpan, and even then its modified.

Personally it'd be another D8 406 for around the £1000 mark or just under (ebay). Trim will be unimportant since unless something really bad happens I'll still have my exec sitting outside before sending it to the scrappers. Engine? Tricky. I love the turbo but I'd probably look at a 110 diseasel cos I'm always skint!

If I get another job though, somewhere closer and better paid, it's a V6 coop, D8, unmodified. No question.

Looking further ahead, I can't see 407s devaluing that quick, so I'd probably look towards a BMW 320D. I've driven one before and loved it. There's so many on the roads it'd take some work not to get a bargain I reckon. Or maybe a Passat
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Yeah I know that, but everytime you mention the X type someone says "that's just a f-ing mondeo!", so I find it easier now to get it in first.

Think I'd go for a later D8. Probably a 2.0 exec.

I believe there's quite a bit of switch gear from the Mondeo also.

Dai, please don't go for a BMW. You've been a good friend and I like you. It'd be a shame to end a good friendship over a car.
