Your favourite road

Post by TooT »

Do you have a good road near you or do you know of one which is great to drive i had a good blast down mine today. Its always clear, has good veiws over the North York moors, plus its fast with nothing really to slow you down. Only problems is that steep hills slow heavy trucks to snails pace, and in winter if it snow its either closed or you get stuck on it.

Today was a good day :cheesy:

My favourite road the A171 Pickering - Whitby

the A217, better known as the 'Mad Mile'
has quite a bad reputation though

my fav road is the old a465( not sure of the new name) from glyneath to neath ,lots of fast sweeping corners and a few long straights, do you know the road im talking about dai ?, very very empty and only 2 very small villages to drive thro , best enjoyed when its dark on your way home from swansea that way you can cover the 10 or 11 miles in about 8 minutes :cheesy:

Yeah I know it and it is good, but there's better ones than that over Sennybridge way, Llandovery, Talgarth. What about the one from Penderyn to Storey Arms? Oooh, oooh, or the one from Beafort to Llangynidr, that's a nice one! And there's a lot to be said for caning it over the Rhigos mountain road down into Treherbert, you can easily reach a ton a couple of times and something about the fekking big drop off the side just adds an extra bit of adrenaline :cheesy:

See, it's no good, I can't choose!

There's a good reason the motoring magazines and programmes often come 'round here to shoot.... 8)

A228 Leybourne Bypass. Its brand new like a racetrack, fairly straight (ish) and is nice and wide.

Runs from J4 of the M20 to Kings Hill where it joins the A26 at Wateringbury.

Can really get your foot down.

a ton down there     i stick to nice lesiurely 50 across there cos im stit-scared of heights and i seen the wreckage of many cars that have gone over the sides  them little 1ft high grass mounds seem to act as a lauch pad not a crash barrier and 400 or 500ft is a bit far to roll down a near cliff for my liking :cheesy:

There is a road running paralell to the A69 (Newcastle-Carlisle) that was built in the late 1700's I think for easier troop movements, I can't remember the number but it's known as the military road up here.

Its long and pretty much straight as a die, some dangerous severe dips to watch out for. There's many a large scrape mark on the upward rise!

Cracking drive if you are familiar with it :cheesy:

Last time I drove over the rhigos mountain was the day I picked the car up after being repaired after the accident, so I took it VERY gently.

But even on the most enthusiastic day, a ton sounds bloody scarey!!

Round here, I'd go for the mountain road linking Talybont-on-usk to the heads of the valleys(A465). Merthyr to Brecon is a nice run, but spoilt in the daytime by too much traffic and speed camera vans.

The memories I've got about the Penederyn to Storey Arms road. Great stuff! Here's a trip down nostalgia lane for me. (In fact, photo's taken by our very own Dai Rees!!

Here's my old AXGT on a Ford in a side road. (Ah, the good old days when cars didn't have cat's or ECU's)

And here it is mid flight

And had to add this last one, a good action shot, on a road with the flattering name of "Bogey Road"

That car was only a 1.4, but was made of paper, so was immensely fast, unsafe, and fun!!
