New Car
Hi,
I have bought another 406 HDi 2.0L (110) to replace my 406 which has been written off:-
It a 51 plate HDi (110) GLX (AC &Sat Nav) with 75K on the clock, and will be picking it up on Friday night.
Will post a few pictures later on.
Kinda not looking forward to replacing all the faulty bit's again. but after a few months i will have had the car fully serviced and changed the crank pulley.
Did they change the HDi engine after 1999 as it looks different too my old HDi, another thing i noticed is it seems a lot faster and smoother than my other car.

Hi,
Yes, after hours of review reading and planning for a change of car and Car Company (as my car history is 309 then a 406) I decided on another 406. And found a good one with a FSH and reasonable mileage (75K) and it is the fully kitted out GLX which is a lot better than my old LX.
All I need is to find a new rear head rest as one is marked.
I have been too see 4 406’s in the past week:-
1) Had done 52K (V reg HDI (110) LX) but had no under tray and the air con was buggered and the front bumper broken on one side. And compared to the one I have got felt slow and lumpy - £2,600
2) Is the one I decided on
3) Was a w reg GLX HDi (110) - 89K, but it had dents’ all over it and fag burns in the driver’s seat – ac was f*cked, and also when test driven. Was slow compared to the one I decided on. And unwilling to accelerate. - £3,000 – also seemed dodgy as the engine bay had been steam cleaned and after the test drive the women assumed I was buying the car and then got arse'y when I said I would think about it she said: - “so you have wasted my time” – Bitch
4) Was a W reg GLX and described as immaculate - LOL got there and the paint work was crap (the car was more silver than the dark green it should have been) the interior was falling to pieces and although it had GLX on the side of the car, seemed like an LX to me. No Elec/Seats no trip computer or cd player. Also had no spear tire/ tire kit, the battery was flat and the ac was f*cked, I would hate to see a crap car sold by this man. -£3,000 – HDi 110 – 83K - did not bother test driving this one.
I am going to see my old car tomorrow to get my radio and swap the EGR valve over so I can put the new one in my new car, any suggestion on stuff I should rob of it (must be stuff the garage and insurance company will not miss – the engine is in full working order):-
List so far
CD multi changer (as it is not standard on the LX)
Swap EGR Valve
Swap new air filter for old
Take all but two of the little black clips to hold the engine cover on.
Other ideas?
"If someone writes this Off, I will be writing them OFF
"
Thanks,
Andy

Well done there fella
It pays to look at a few first for sure.
I remember looking at an LX on a Y plate
I think the only panel which wasn't dented was the roof
Steam was coming off the radiator and smelt strongly of coolant (the dealer said " that's just water where we've jet washed the car mate") I left shortly after.
I can't think of anything else you could pilfer off your old one.
So, like, have the insurance paid out already???

Cars in my care:
2021 Kia Spottage 1.6 Pez Turbo Dual Clutch Gearbox Trickery
2013 Renner Twingo - donkey work

What's the comparative condition of the spare tyres - new and old? Worth nicking the jack, etc to ebay. The CD changer will sell on ebay (if it's a shelf instead I'll take it off your hands ;) ). How many bulbs can you borrow from the dash? Definitely worth having the mats out of it if they're Peugeot - those sods are worth £60 a set when new! Pollen filter recently changed? Cigarette lighter will fetch a few quid on eBay if unused. How do the gear knobs compare?
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang
Hi
Apart from that the insurance company has been very fast: -
Crash on Sunday (last Sunday bank holiday)
Car at the garage Tuesday (as it was a bank holiday
Got hire car Wednesday
Wrote off Friday and sent money
Apart from the low amount I would recommend direct line

Looking smart there!
Hope you enjoy the new car, certainly looks a pretty good buy at that money and spec!
Never driven a diesel Pug - Allways been curious, shame they bring BIG money here (sometimes worth more than 3 times a petrol variant) and usually they have at least 150+km on the clock. I'd trade up and start modding it but at that kinda money, doesn't make a whole lot of sense!
