Quick question:
Anyone else find the diesel pump nozzles don't go in to the filler neck very far.
With all that slooshing sound so close to me I was a bit paranoid that I was going to get a pocket full of diesel when it clicked off! ;)

Also how big is the tank!?!

I put £10 in to get the 50 miles home then another £58 to fill it. :shock:
I can't have used much of that original £10 in 50 motorway miles.
That's one big mother of a petrol tank :cheesy:

At current diesel prices that tankfull had better last me till 2107 :P

Can't remember the price of petrol at the time, but a taxi opposite me at the pumps a couple of years ago got £70, but he said it was running on air at the time. If I put £70 in, I think I would simply cry!!

As for the nozzle thing, can't say I've noticed that in either of my diesel 406's, and have never had a "splurt" of diesel on my jeans.

The most I've put in was about 73 litres (it has a 70 litre tank apparently)

The filler hole on the 406 is a bit of a pain and seems to frequently trip the pump nozzle so you have to fill it up drip at a time :/ I find putting the nozzle in at an angle to help sometimes

Yeah the filler is a bit annoying, it didn't trip apart from when full but it just didn't go in very far.
Fortunately once it tripped my jeans were diesel free!

Ah, It'll be fine I'll just trust it.... Whilst keeping my distance from the filler neck :lol:

Hehehe....nobody had ever mentioned this and yet it IS a pain in the arse.

It took me ages to pluck up the courage to squeeze the pump to *full monty filling* and realise that it won't spray your trousers/shoes :lol:

I reckon the nozzle only goes in by a half :roll: somehow you don't get the click-click-click as easily as petrol's.

Never done a full tank in the 406 - Only ever put $50 AUD in it at a time. Gets me around 360-400km?

I find that depending on the flow of the pump, it can cut out a bit and you have to take filling it up pretty slow? Anyone else get this problem?

The trick with the pump nozzle is to turn it through 180 degrees - ie. hold it so that the pipe is going upwards.

100% success rate with this, and it still clicks-off.

Incidentally, I used the pay@pump the other day, and the pump automatically cuts out at approx £60 - I say approx because it still helpfully takes about 30p's worth to actually stop !

Before I settled on my strict diet of BP, I used to get extremely frustrated by that £60 limit as it meant I could only put 4 days worth in instead of a whole week. Bastards.

M, don't you get sick of spending sooooo much on petrol?

Surely a clever chappy like you could work nearer to home?

Unless, secretly, your saving up for a HDi :cheesy:

Good topic this I went to fill mines up for the first time at hte weekend and stopped at £45 :shock: needed extra spends for that day. What does it take to fill the tank?

There's really not much in my line of work outside London, which is somewhere I've vowed I'll never work. I hate the place with passion. I really like Stoke too and ain't going to move if I can help it (other than to my own place here when I have a new job and can afford to buy somewhere)

I've actually thought a lot about what my next car's going to be and every time I end up at the conclusion that although the HDi would save me money in the short term, the turbo is just waaaay too good to say goodbye to. I don't take advantage of its greatness as much as I should but when I do it always brings a smile to my face when that turbo spools up... The sound it makes when you're flooring it in 2nd is gorgeous, plus it seems utterly bombproof (oh sh*t there's me blowing up tomorrow!) :)

I really wouldn't mind finding out some economy figures for a HDi with Extreme Grandad Driving though

At the end of the day though, if my '6 dies before I can find a new job, I'm buggered :(

most i've squeezed in is £74.50 @ 94p a litre, and it carried me 825 miles before the light came on again!! ave 52.3 mpg. i do prefer to just tanker the fuel though and fill up once a month than every week. on the motorways mine sometimes hits 53-55mpg despite hammering it and other days it struggles to get above 45-48 easy on it as i go. bizarre :?

I once did an extreme Grandad drive back from Skegness (no hills, 60MPH) and I only managed 53 MPG :cry:

It appears some HDi's do better than others :? although, I do appear to have one of the 'fast' ones so maybe that's why.

You're not Extreme enough Welton :P I get my turbo returning 50-55mpg on the motorways dependant on weather and size/speed of truck I'm slipstreaming

Only reason I get 40-42mpg on my daily commutes (as low as 28mpg in bad traffic) is cos I have to deal with traffic lights and traffic jams in Manchester. I ain't found a way of getting over 10mpg for the non-motorway parts of my trip :( Turbo acceleration no cheap :( I've tried everything from 'normal' starts to 'only at peak torque' to 'only at idle' and everywhere in between to no avail.
