I've finally bitten the bullet..
and booked the car it for new Dual mass flywheel, clutch and crankshaft oil seal. Its done nearly 148k so its probably well due one! may even look at little remap after, not which i'll have any money to do it thou.
Goes in on friday, hopefully get it back saturday as I need it to get to work on Monday. Garage are going to try get me price for the Valeo solid flywheel conversion kit, so it may get one of those or not.
This car either costs nearly nothing to be fix or blind fortune!

you should have gone for the valeo solid flywheel kit if your gonna go for a remap as the dodgy DMF's are usually what cause clutch slip in the first place, also the solid flywheel kit is cheaper

that would be nice, but probably bit of a over kill. Cars done 148k done, so if it i did get it re-mapped i wouldn't want it taking too far, a little over 130, so its more powerful than my brother's a4 would be good.
Would have thought a new DMF could cope with this much power as long as i was careful with it and a solid flywheel would take it without any probs.

well just picked the car up, had the standard DMF, the garage couldn't find anyone who new anything about the solid replacement! had to have a extra bit of clutch (plastic tube or bush or something) fitted which cost extra £4! think I can live with that.
The clutch pedal is a lot lighter now, i'll need to be careful not to sneeze on it! The bite is lower and across more of the travel of the pedal instead of being sharp right at the top. I did the foot flat to the floor at 60mph and it just pulled up to 70 without slipping, unlike it did before.
I got them to show me the old DMF and there was no resistance between in the inner and outer pieces, you could move them with your little finger! Think it was basically warn out, i hope this ones last as long (148K) again! not which I plan to keep the car to 300k!
I don't think I would be re-mapping your car Fog, i would expect if you do it will be heading for a new flywheel pretty quickly!

Glad you're happy with it. I reckon a decent clutch /DMF combo will transform the way the car behaves on changes-downs and pulling away too .

Hey, has your clutch pedal position come down to being level with the brake pedal because most of us decided here ages ago that the clutch pedal allways sits high on the 406 with no adjustment, but I reckon it rises up with the clutch wear over time.

James correct me if im wrong but i think but i think all hdi's have a hydraulic clutch which adjusts according to wear. My pug's clutch is nice and low. Welly if you keep your pug get an uprated one and solid fly like mine. Anymore info just ask mate? Not sure who posted with regards to the replacement dmf but good look. My clutch and fly has a 40,000 mile/4 year guarantee also.That was another reason why i went for the uprated versions on both.

Still amazed how much light the clutch pedal is, got in this morning and rammed pedal into the floor!
