New Site in developement - become a part of our history!

Post by nick »

Okies - I'm currently working towards updating the forum software to the latest new spangly release of phpbb3. If you want to have a look around, with all the existing topics and users still in place, head to the 406 Playground.

Now, as a result, theres quite a lot of updating, and shifting of user dataabout, as well as fixing small bits of code for this sites use - nothing major - but it'll be a pain in the asss for a while - which is why I aint transfering it accross just now.

While i'm ironing out some of the small things, I thought I'd let all you guys with a little more artistic talent than me to be let loose designing a few things..

Anyone can submit thier ideas for others to use, or to actually submit a drawing, or photo.

What I'm looking for is a logo for the top right hand corner (much like the existing one - but without the pug406oc.co.uk text, cause that site dosent appear to be kicking it with the rest of the site..), and for photos, to appear on the front page (like the existing photos)..

If anyone wants to kick in - go for it, and get replying with your ideas/suggestions/pictures and logos!

Cheers!

N
Thanks,
Nick

Nick,if the Recent Topics scrolling box is being carried over, can you PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZ fix the MOST
annoying (for me) thing about the whole site : after viewing each topic, and returning back to the box to see more,it reverts back to the beginning again and you have to wait longer & longer (as you get further down the list)for the next item of interest to appear to click on.........and so on (just occasionally it freezes which is fine, but from experience that only happens if you dont scroll down the page of the topic you're looking at).
Hope this makes sense ,it's so bloody annoying !

You're more than welcome to use and abuse the logo that I knocked up to make the stickers, you can find various versions of it here:

In a similar fashion, this is one that shows the logo with the R-Cup Peugeot Sponsor Lion from Viper Graphics...have had many favourable remarks on that

The feel of the new site is great. Alot faster too.

I miss the Board Navigation and User Block on the left side. Hope that gets added back?

Also not used to having my avatar on the right side of a post :)

Great going Nick, will keep testing!....

~~ flickering flashback~~

I remember the last time this forum changed layouts :)

Took a bit of learning the new features but was well worth it. I hope this newer version will bring similar benefits.

The reproduced Avatars look a bit funny to me :?

I also find the font in the posts a bit small?

And it does look funny having the Avatar etc on the right.

Just an observation :cheesy:

For a logo, how about some one that combines a saloon, and estate and a coupe. I'm sure Niz can do some photo editing. I've got plenty of coupe photos(and saloon, but we'll probably have a few others).

Like the layout, but I got to be honest, I didn't find it quicker.

Here's my thoughts:

1. The server it's on (i can see not the same as this board's on) is dog slow taking a few seconds to fulfil each HTTP request.

2. Nasty nasty nasty nasty nasty theme and I can't see a way of changing it in user prefs. Please lets have the avatar area on the left of posts, and a bit thinner than half the page? :)

3. One of the best features we have now I reckon is the way you can have your car type shown in the avatar area next to your post. Helps a lot when someone posts a vague request about something model-specific without saying which model it is...

4. The addition of 'report dodgy spam robot w**ker thing' button is very welcome. Please have it email mods :P

Other than that I ain't fussed. I just want nice quick, clean pages and my beloved 'new posts' search which is always my entry page to the site
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

I go along with the "nasty theme" comment...I find it too spaced-out,acres of unused space;the garish blue is horrendous as well.....to be honest,a clean up & overhaul of the existing site to encompass the new ideas would be fine.
But that's just me :!:
