The time has come to say farewell......

Post by Foghorn Leghorn »

No, not me :P

Blame Darren for this thread with his new Mi16.

Fast forward to the point when its time to chop in old faithful (and no bloody D9 jokes James :frown: ), what have you got your eye on for your next trusty steed.

Lets hear what you've got your eye on, and then I'll tell you my evil plan.

I dunno, here's nowt I want really.

I love the estate, so it'll have to be another one of them....

No run of the mill jap stuff, soulless crap!, but I could possibly be swayed by a big scooby. :?

I like the BMW 5 series, Audis and the Jag X type 'states

Or maybe a Discovery or summat, but then I'd take it off road and wreck it :frown:

I can't think that far ahead, but now I've done the coupe thing, my next car is likely to be th sort that I don't mind parking near asda's front door and not at the back of the car park, and that I don't feel paranoid about parking anywhere. Allthough, I do remember doing all these things when I had my 2.1td saloon, so I think it's just a "Neil's car" thing that I'm stuck with.

I'd like to have a car where you know that something's wrong when it starts making funny noise, or won't start at all, not just get a F***ing engine management light on!

Well, I'm very seriously considering either one of these

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Saab-9-5-Estate-H ... dZViewItem

or one of these

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VOLVO-V70-T5-SE-2 ... dZViewItem

Not these exact ones of course (want a manual).
Both 2.3 turbo kicking out 250bhp, and are selling for silly money now. £5k should get a 2001 model with sub 100k mileage. T5 engine is good for nearly 500bhp before there are serious issues (wouldn't want to go that far bought a bit of tuning would be nice :cheesy: )

Currently doing my homework as to common issues and things to look out for. Insurance for the volvo is only £30 a year more than the 406

Shame the only do about 20-25mpg, which is why the winner will be paying a visit to Warrington autogas for an lpg conversion.

If I go for it I will probably start looking seriously in spring next year.

My list (idealy):
  • Nissan Silvia 2.0 Turbo S15 (must be totally standard)
Nissan Skyline R34 GTS single turbo (must be totally standard)
Honda Integra Type R DC2 in white (must be low miles and standard)
    Vauxhall Monaro V8
On the other hand:

A top spec VW or Audi.

The funny thing is, my 406 is such a high spec I would miss some of the toys like memory heated seats etc and would almost find a replacement difficult and a compromise.
Cars in my care:
2021 Kia Spottage 1.6 Pez Turbo Dual Clutch Gearbox Trickery
2013 Renner Twingo - donkey work

I meant an R34 but a single turbo, sorry (a less stressed out machine and representing a much safer buy in standard guise).

Are Skylinez all the rage over there in the UK atm? How much does a good condition MANUAL (not that auto/tiptronic shite) go for over your way?
