The reserve light came on at 590 miles and I've done 50 miles since then.
I forgot to get the card this morning from home to put diesel in
What's the furthest anyone has gone on reserve and do you get any warning before the car conks out?
Going for a personal best on this
Generally the reserve light comes on at 600miles and I fill up at 650.
I've got about 25miles to get home... will I make it or not.

bah "reserve"... I'll happily drive 150 miles after the light comes on before starting to get worried.
I usually start counting from the time i can turn the ignition on and the needle doesn't move at all... THAT is where things start to get interesting and you consider chickening out and getting fuel on the 60 mile trip home

I think you'll get home, although the Lift Pump might not be your best friend any more
I have never let my fuel go below >>>>>35 miles on the fuel-left o'meter.
In truth, and if you ever watched that Top Gear where Clarkson went to Edinburgh and back then I think cars have considerably more fuel left in them than you think when they say 'empty'.

Ah I don't have one of them new fangled trip computer thingies, even though my car is a 99 D9 GLX which I think should have them it's a bit of a parts bin special ;)
And yes I'm in the RAC, so if it all goes horribly wrong.....

Actually, I've pondered before about having a spare can of Diesel in the boot but the problem would be the smell and the can flying around in the boot
there's no smell unless you manage to splash the can when you're filling up (d'oh!) and as for flying around, get one of those non-slip rubber mats from tescos for about £3. It's more than big enough to cover an estate's boot and really well worth it
