Ramps

Post by mjb »

Does the 406 fit on ramps? You know, the sort of 3ft long, 10" high things you get from Halfrauds? Seems to me the wheels wouldn't actually get anywhere near the things... It'd be handy if the did though
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

I use little half ramps knocked up out of planks of wood to narrow the angle onto the metal ramps, if you don't do that the bumper does indeed touch the ramp. I have seen them for sale in sparesworld, but I figured a couple of bits of old wood out of the shed was much cheaper than the £13 they were asking for.

Bloody hell - I've just spend 3 months digging out a 6 foot deep inspection pit in my garage and all I needed was 3 bits of wood from Dai's shed

Bluddy useful thing a pit, my dad dug one when I was a kid, 6 foot deep too but he soon found that was too deep as he spent all his time reaching up and it felt like his arms were going to fall off. In the end he raised the floor with bricks.

Ramps scare me, I always think I'm going to "miss", or drive off the other end >crunch!< The 406 does seem to be sadly lacking in decent places to put a trolley jack or axle stands though.

i have to use ramp extensions, though i didnt get them from halfrauds, i got them from macess (trade only)
without them you will end up pushing the ramps down the road, or take the front bumper off when reversing off

It's a good idea to have a lid (my dad had a solid wood fire door) over the pit, you don't take it off 'til the car's over it...
