Interesting.
UK population 60.2 million, 242,514 sq km = 248.23 bods per sq km
Oz population 21 million, 7.7 million sq km = 2.73 bods
Land of Fins 5.2 million, 338,145 sq km = 15.38
US of A 300 million, 9.8 million sq km = 30.61, and if my maths is right they pay arround 40p a litre (bastards).
I've come to think it's not just that the UK government are greedy feckers (although that's part of it), the UK is overpopulated, imagine if everyone that has a car took to the roads at the same time... Conversly,in countries like the US and Oz, with sparse populations, you really want people to be able to move around, otherwise trade would die. Per capita income should probably come into this but I can't be arsed to go into that, it might in part explain the disparity though.
Anyway, the UK really needs to get people onto public transport but it's cheaper to force them onto it by driving the fuel prices up and putting speed traps everywhere than actually investing in public transport, especially if you've already flogged it all off so your mates can stuff huge wads of cash in their pockets... It also doesn't make sense to invest in roads (unless you have mates in the conctrution business)
BargainBro, just what has your government got against petrol cars?
Anyway, in answer to the big question, it's hard to find bang up to date numbers but if you drive a petrol car don't go to Holland with it, and if you use diesel don't go to Switzerland (it's almost £1.50!)
