What's the best way to sell this car..

Post by Welly »

It's a 1998 318tds compact 160,000 miles.

It was playing up starting (took about 3 goes) so I got the glow plugs changed £100.00  but still it plays up (sometimes) it's been diagnosed as a software problem with the DDE fuel injection which ONLY the Stealers can do  so that'll be fun.

Thing is I would happily sell it for around £1,500.00 which is quite cheap for a diesel one of these but I would hate to sell it locally knowing it plays up sometimes and then keep seeing it around (I live in 'gossipsville').

I really need someone to buy it cheap and go away. What about Autotrader or ebay? do you have to state what's wrong wth it? (I see these 'bad points' lists on ebay) how much does it cost to advertise? my local ragg charge about £35.00 for a one off advert but if you miss your potential buyer it's a waste.

A dealer offered me bottom book (£1,200.00) but I am wary of passing on a car with 'issues' to the trade in case they come and put a Bananna up my tail pipe in retribution.

What do you lot reckon?

Isn't Loot free anymore? You're meant to be honest on fleabay so maybe it isn't for you...

Balls to the dealer, what about the amount of dodgy cars dealers shift themselves? Caveat emptor, an' all that.

Anyway, it's a beemer, just leave it unlocked for a couple of hours (& maybe leave a note about the fault for the thieves)

Loot? Adtrader? I've never even heard of them! It's one thing trying to shift a car cheaply, it's another to actually get it sold! For that, ebay has the biggest audience by far.

I managed to sell a write-off laguna for 3 figures on ebay :)

I would say ebay aswell. I would describe wants wrong with it and im sure it will still sell, someone with the know-how will snap it up and fix it.

I'm not that familier with the workings of ebay but it appears you should state everything that you think is wrong with the goods so you don't get a bad reputation?

I'm wary too of the sort of arse that will turn up and start beefing on about stuff and pull out of the deal or mess you around (this happened to Geordieboy) seems to me that sub £1500.00 cars people take the piss with low offers? then you have to advertise it again etc? even if someone wins they can still mess you about I think?

TBH I've never used ebay, ever, so I'm a bit 'green' :(

f*cking cars, I've got three fuckers now :frown:

Right - I'm going to clean it up, take some pics and put it in Autotrader!

What to you think is best?:

3wks on the Web + 3wks in the Mag = £44.00
2wks Web + 1wk Mag = £34.00
6wks on the Web only = £34.00

I was thinking 6 wks on the web, I can't remember the last time I bought the Magazine I allways look on the web site.

The car has already been replaced with another BMW (which she hates apparently) :frown:

Looks like I could be selling 2 of them very soon :|

Web only. Then people all over the uk will see it. The mags are only regional and like you say who the fook buys them now, they cost £2.20

*remembers the days when it was a pound with black a white photos*

I put my Ibiza Cupra on web only and a guy drove up from London threw a bag of twentys at me and it drove back. Nice and easy 8)
