Road works rant

Post by TooT »

I like driving. I drive all day for my job which is great but of late its getting to be a real pain in the ring :(
Why? Farking road works, there everywhere. In my town there is sh*t loads going on, theres a new park and ride system being built with carparks so temporary traffic lights are set up there. Also a new bypass is being built so more lights plus 3 miles of 60mph zone is now 30. Now to make matters worse its getting to the end of the tax year so the council are digging up roads and laying down new tarmac everywhere for no reason just to spend the budget, so even more temporary lights ARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGG. A simple 5 minute trip out of town is taken nearly 30 minutes

Is it just my town or is this going on in your area?

Oh yeah and this is a new one which is cropping up near me too, Instead of a 60mph changing to a 30 zone as you drive into a village more of the 60 zones are getting swallowed up to be 40 zones for the quarter of a mile before you hit the 30. Why? So plod can sit in a hedge and f*ck you over for doin 43.

Im sick of it.

Sorry iv had a bad day

At least you've still got a drivable car...
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Bloody road works. As my dad used to say "put another bloke on and it'll be done in half the time". In France they only seem to happen at night, about 100 guys come along, work like the clappers and in the morning it's done.

They resurfaced my road here last year, for about a month it was a bloody mess of mud and pot holes. I suppose that's better than the usual "tamp some tarmac in the hole and wonder why it's gone in a month" which is good because it'll probably be another 50 years before they do it again (the main road into Samobor is mostly the same as it was when it was laid by the Germans in WWII) They did start to resurface the old high road between here and Zagreb a couple of years ago, they got as far as diamond cutting off the old surface so it's dangerous (especially to bikes) but then seemed to loose interest.

Thats just reminded me. Wasnt there a Top Gear episode which they spent a day tarmacing a road really quickly.

Maybe the council should sit down and watch it.

It's the same in Woking. Their latest craze is building new pedestrian crossings everywhere & the roadworks always start right in the middle of the rush hour

My town is slowly but surely banning the motorcar from the centre and turning everywhere into a sea of fancy block paving so all the non-working benefit fraudsters can go about there shoplifting during the working week without cars getting in their way.

Conversely, huge buses carrying 4 people ARE allowed in the pedestian zones enabling the bus to belch out black smoke right in the face of a babies an toddlers in push chairs.

Up here they have the nasty habit of digging a hole in the road and then leave it for 2 weeks, come back and repair the pipe, leave it two weeks the fill it in wrong, creatinig a huge pothole that swallows cars whole. Then when enough people are queing up to complain, they fill it in properly.

The newest fad is to re-lay a stretch of road over say a month. Then a week after its completed they start digging channels in it and back fill it badly, making it worse than it was prior to the re-lay.

Grrr
