how do we know for 100% certanty that we actually get a litre of fuel?

the government and oil companys could be on a fiddle and issuing lees than a litre
therefore when you fill up you get the above scenario....

just an idea??

Not sure about the govrnment (fleecing us enough already) but I wouldn't put it past the petrol company - didn't this happen a while back? Then again, maybe Puggy's happy the the filler neck on his tank holds 15 liters...

must admit it has had me wondering ,first time i have used the
petrol station ( its the esso one on the A34 near to milehouse mj )
85 ltrs does seem a lot , could keep the reciept and run it down to
same level again and fill up somewhere else and compare

Fuel Tank Capacity and Gas Pump Accuracy Sorry, it's a .pdf.

Interesting? (it's for petrol but some of it probably applies to diesel)

if i remember correctly there was a company (the one with the tiger i think) who got caught giving less than a gallon (thats how old the story is) at lots of their fuel stations they got a huge fine and now a gvt department can just walk onto any forecourt and check the mesurement from the pump and close the pumps if it's wrong
i have heard that if you fill up early in the morning you get more fuel because of a lower ambient temp making the fuel denser than normal but i think it's an urban myth hmmmmmmmmmm one to send to mythbusters i guess but they wont touch it because they dont get to make anything explode from it

Doesn't sound right to me :? the tank capacity is stated as 72 litres so I would expect you to squeeze in 78 at the most but not 85 - especially as you would have had at least 5 litres left in the tank to start with.

Maybe the pump was "faulty" :|

I know the one - opposite McDonalds give or take 100 yards or so? I'd rather walk the 2 miles up to BP (abusing the hidden camera van that got me en route) than put a drop of Esso in my beloved
