That's a lot of work there nimike! I'm looking forward to seeing the end result!
I'm dreading the day I ever have to get the engine out of my CB500, the front bolt has become part of the block!

Now is the time to soak it in WD, it might have got in there by the time you need to move it. It's a shame I didn't have a digital camera when I rebuilt my dad's G3LS Matchless, would have been an interesting comparison.

nimike wrote:Alas, WD wont do a thing for it as its a steel and aluminum chemical corrosive combination which cant be undone. We tried all sorts on it. WD40, extreme heat, combinations of boths but it ended up with it being grinded off and a tunstone carbon drill bit right down the middle of the bolt to get it all out.
Tell me about it, mild steel exhaust studs in an ally head are my favourite :frown:

Oh I dunno, I've had some surprises with WD. Not with the head studs though, the differential expansion/contraction with the heat usually means the buggers are welded in place.

I wanted to get a Remus for mine when I replaced the rotten old Motad can but the cheapest quote I got was £280

Here's a couple of snaps of my baby :cheesy:
Image

Image

She's a 1980 CB 900 FB at first glance.
She actually left Hondas factory, in '80, as a CB 750 FA, but has had 900 barrels and oil cooler fitted, along with the FB air assisted front forks, alloy clip-on type bars, twin front discs with twin pot brake callipers all round.
This has caused me huge problems............ Which bike did this bit come off?
I'm slowly sorting out all the botch jobs on her, as they totally screw up.

The first thing I had to do, was get my clocks refurbished. On the rev counter one of the screws unscrewed itself; on the speedo, the needle perished and snapped off.
They look like this now. (The top half of the rev counter dial has CB printed on it in silver  ).
Image
I bought a new 'dash board' panel, but they only come in black now, so I need to get it chromed before it goes on.

The seat has been re-done, I've completely rebuilt the wiring loom, because of the same problems you've been having nimike.
This year I've sorted out my rear brake problem (I hope).
I've been pulling out hair I can ill afford to loose over this one. :cheesy:

The Motad pipe is still in good nick, so that'll be staying for now. I need to make a decent hanger bracket for it though.

Sorting this beast out is going to be a long, slow process.
Simon.

I live in Scotland, if I wait for sunshine it'll stay locked away in the garage all the time.
(My bikes are stored in my garage, our cars live outside, as is right and proper :cheesy: )

I'll pray for sunshine, but carry waterproofs.

I took her out on her first proper run this weekend 8) .
From home to Lazenby yesterday, to visit some good friends I haven't seen for quite some time.
We had a great evening, drinking far too much beer and talking complete bollocks, as you do.
I crashed out on the spare bed for the night. Stayed there till late this morning, had a light lunch and plenty of coffee.
I got back home at 7:30 this evening, wet.
A round trip of 400 miles, which used 12 gallons of petrol  , but she didn't miss a beat.
It was fantastic
