My "music" collection is currently around the 1100 album mark, residing on a 1TB external hard drive

My collection is knocking around 500GB at the moment, currently starting to re-rip all my CDs as FLACs (about time) because i'm more and more frequently noticing the flaws of MP3 encoding

CDs are must too inconvenient, especially when I'm very rarely more than a few feet away from something which is networked and can play mp3s or flacs

I couldn't sell them, it would be like selling part of my soul

I just buy CDs to reward artists I like. Download everything metal I can get my hands on, then buy and do a high quality rip of the albums I find myself listening to.

I've been burnt so many times by buying sh*t albums for up to £20 a pop that I plain refuse to buy music now unless I've heard them. The exception of course is when I go to gigs, small bands (where I'll have pretty much just heard 90% of their repertoire ) especially

I am also wary of buying albums though, I will probably buy a mainstream artist like Keane, Kings Of Leon, Coldplay or Snow Patrol without checking to see if I like it because I know what to expect, however I have learnt from previous mistakes when it comes to smaller bands and one hit wonders where I've been out and bought the album and it was shite, with only one decent track on it.
In fact, I can see another thread emerging from this........

It's the bigger bands with me. Metallica - Load, Dragonforce - Inhuman Rampage, Megadeth - United Abominations, Iron Maiden - Brave New World... *shudder*
