Is it right to flash "foggers"..

Post by Welly »

I don't know whether I need glasses or what but I'm finding oncoming headlights to be very bright on my way home when I'm tired etc. to this end I get really pissed off with the "front fogs brigade" and give them a flash!

I've tried flashing my fogs briefly in the hope that maybe they'd forgot they were on and I've even had them flash their headlights back at ME in anger :x

I even tried driving on a quite stretch with my foggs on to see what all the fuss is about and found they actually REDUCE forward visability for the driver because they increase foreground lighting and make your pupils close slightly

So - these people are knobs are they not?

Shall we flash them?

Yeah I know, I'm on a bit of a crusade at the moment for some reason (I suspect a fruitless one)

Don't bother, your blood pressure will rise and it won't change anything.

Apart from the beautiful blue light brigade and the "I see a tiny bit of mist up in the mountains, I better turn my fog lights on" mob I also get the 6" off my back bumper club, it happens daily but I've stopped flashing my break lights: one guy overtook me, then slowed right down in front of me and drove slowly for about 5 km, I think the idea was I overtake and he speeds up when I get along side... Then I had some complete prat in an X3 tailgating me through the roadworks on the motorway, speed limit said 60, I was doing 70, he was about a meter off my arse so I flashed my brake lights. He panic braked and swerved all over the place, then he was even closer, flashing his lights and sounding his horn. When we got to the end of the roadworks he pulled along side me, then swerved sharply towards me and must have got within a foot, I was too surprised to react, then his passenger threw a plastic bottle at me which bounced off my window (ouch, the pain, the pain) and then he sped off down the road.

The moral is: Other road users are dangerous and possibly homicidal. Stay as far away from them as possible and avoid any interaction. And remember: some people carry guns here...

Italian drivers are supposed to be the worst in the world, if they're worse than this lot I'm never going to Italy.

Mmm, maybe I should turn around, follow the 'fogger', follow them home and then smash their cranium in with a wrecking bar.....then they would not bother me at all the next day on my return home 8)

Someone told me that if I find lights to be unduely bright then I may need some glasses? :supafrisk:

Me too, I do need glasses though not that badly and that's more to do with my age, bright lights have always been a problem though. Something to do with my migraines perhaps.

It's even worse on a bike when you've got smears of road salt all over your visor & some @rsehole has their fogs on

YES :!: Complete knobs

Hate them with a passion. Been tempted to get half a dozen of those huge rally spots with 150W bulbs & demonstrate the problem to them, but I guess I'll just growl & mumble to myself.

The other modern habit that winds me up is parking with headlights on, (& fogs sometimes), especially on the wrong side of the road. No point flashing these pr@ts, there's usually no-one in the car :!:

You should be entitled to turn them off with a hammer

I only bother flashing when someone's literally blinding me with main beams. My thinking is I'd rather have a front quarter impact with a car than hit a pedestrian I can't see, so I tend to wander into the oncoming lane and brake while flashing... Gets their attention...

I also flash people when there's a police car in the vicinity. I've only gotten one pulled over, but I shall keep trying

My pet peeve though is rear foglamps on an unlit motorway on a night with good weather. And the twats with their main beams on while overtaking you on an unlit motorway...

I wear glasses for driving, when i had them made at Vision Express i payed extra for an anti-glare coating on the lenses for driving at night, it helps a bit.

But they are no welding mask when comes to Mr fog light and Mr full beam coming at you :frown:

Anyone fancy starting a campaign to ban the foglight menace?

Maybe

Enforce the Law on Foglights

Mind you car makers don't help. As previously pointed out you can't have the rear one on without the front on a 406

Some cars were more sensible, e.g. mk2 Jag. lighting switch marked Off Side Head Fog i.e. it headlights OR foglights not both.

Even the hated Fiat Strada, the rear fog would only work with dipped headlights, if you used main beam the fog went out.

It should be an offence to use both front fogs & headlights - the only time fogs are any good is if visibility is so bad & reflected glare so great that you can't use dips.

 It would then be possible to modify ANPR cameras to check for two sets of lights & issue an automatic fixed penalty notice to anyone using both, along with explanatary leaflet you can put in your tracksuit pocket until you find someone who can read it to you :P

On my way in this morning I accelerated out of a mini roundabout in 2nd and because the front end lifted I got flashed for dazzling an oncoming guy with my dipped beams
