Re: car tax
Have a look on here http://www.bytestart.co.uk/content/taxl ... 08-9.shtml
All pre-2001 models are £185.00
I'm not absolutely certain, but I think this is correct:
110 manual with FAP Group C - £120/yr
110 manual without FAP Group D - £145/yr
All HDi 90's Group D - £145/yr
110 auto with FAP Group D - £145/yr
110 auto without FAP system Group E - £170/yr
All 136's Group E - £170/yr
I can vouch for the 136, hopefully, other owners will confirm what they pay.

Re: car tax
I would go for an earlier one without a fap. Ok you pay a little more in tax but the fap is very costly when they go wrong
.
I have a 110 hdi which is a 2000 reg. In preference I would suggets the older shape 406 so you would be looking at a S reg also I would go for the 2.1. Thats my opinion the older shape 406's seem far more reliable and cheaper to run.

Re: car tax
It's because all HDi's are 'clean' enough to qualify for slightly lower tax rates, (assessed in terms of grams of CO2 / km),but these rules were introduced in 2001 and were not retrospective. Prior to 2001 there were only two rates, for over and under 1560cc or thereabouts.
It's legislation, doesn't have to make sense

Re: car tax
so the 90s are all made before 2001 did these have the same engine as the old 405 then or is this a hdi as well?dogslife wrote:It's because all HDi's are 'clean' enough to qualify for slightly lower tax rates, (assessed in terms of grams of CO2 / km),but these rules were introduced in 2001 and were not retrospective. Re: car tax
Hdi 90 & 110 both introduced mid 1999, but were taxed at the higher of the 2 available rates, until emissions based tax bands were introduced in 2001. Both engines continued in production to the last 406 's made. 2.2l Hdi 136 introduced 2001, also remained in production until the end.
All 136's have the FAP system, later HDi 110's also have FAP, from about 2002, I think. 90's never had FAP. HDi 110 with FAP qualifies for marginally lower tax, but I don't think anyone would suggest the tiny saving outweighs the complexity and potential cost of the FAP system.

Re: car tax
It's a shame about the 2001 rule change as the HDi is very clean running and would easily quaify for the lower rate even on older models like mine. It's a pity they don't tax you based on your MOT emission result in bands (I'm only saying this as most HDi'ers would benefit).
Doggy - I don't think any 110's had a FAP fitted in later years - rather they had an 'Air Dozer' device which does something in conjunction with the EGR function at idle speed/low revs to reduce standing emissions and this qualifies the car for much lower tax.
