Freezing Rain

Post by steve_earwig »

Not content with being so cold my heating packed up, this morning the weather threw freezing rain at us. An inch or so of fine stuff that either stuck to everything or built up on the ground - imagine if you will tiny beads of ice, a bastard to walk on and it does this to your tyres:

Anyway, that stopped ,leaving the roads even more interesting than they were, but I came out of my house at 6:50 to a heavy shower of the stuff. It's a real bastard to scrape off your windows and makes ice rinks of the pavements. I was in a bit of a hurry when I left home and forgot to do the rear passenger window. Half way to my other half's I thought it must have thawed enough with the heater going, I'll just open the window:

Err, maybe not.

This sort of stuff brings down trees and power lines so I'm releaved to say it's stopped. Unfortunaly it's snowing now, heavily. Looks like I'm in for an early start :(

I don't think I ever saw freezing rain in GB. Good thing too, bedlam would ensue.

Christ on a bike, stop snowing! A car that parked outside 20 minutes ago looks like a loaf of bread.

It's not actually that cold, I think if it was any colder it wouldn't be snowing. It's below freezing though, walking through it's like walking through really soft sand. No good for making snowmen.

Btw I just watched the aforementioned car's driver take 10 minutes to extricate himself. He was parked just where I swept all that broken glass they left behind them on New Year's Eve. That'll learn 'em

Coming back down from that London on Sunday night, the wind blew me across an entire lane of the motorway. Fun!
