Eek!

Post by mjb »

I'd just like to announce that a dodgy throttle position sensor in a V6 is f*cking scary!!!

Can't see what all the fuss is about.
Just dip the clutch - rev limiter's bound to work perfectly. 8)
I mean it's not dependant on dodgy hardware that might be compromised by the faulty throttle sensor, or relying on iffy software, er I see waht you mean

I had something similar happen on my first bx 16 valve, before I'd sorted out the condensation on the plug caps malarky - now we're running on 3, now we're running on 2, dammit, let me pull over here... oh, we're running on all 4 again and I'm on the pavement

it's not much fun when a car like that tries accelerating hard on its own. Ended up pulling off in 2nd (stench of burning clutch anyone?) then dropping it into 5th at about 20mph, occasionally dipping the clutch and braking back down to 20

Going to have to get the contact cleaner on it tomorrow. Not a nice job on the V6, needing the airbox, air hose and whole bloody throttle body removing :( Still ain't got myself a replacement throttle gasket either

Do you know if it's an encoder or some kind of pot., (thinking graft yerself on a temp. hand throttle, or drop the voltage a tad so it'll only give you half throttle, just till you can sort it properly).

Well I've just got in from attacking it. Decided to try to remove the TPS in situ and I wish I hadn't. Took twice as long to do with the torx screwdriver bit in an adjustable spanner, and I was constantly crapping myself about dropping the bit or the screw. Or giving myself a nice burn on the arm which was close to the battery positive terminal

Brought the TPS indoors and checked it out with a battery and oscilloscope and it was very dodgy at the bottom end. Another spray of electrical contact cleaner and it appears ok again, but I dunno for how long :/

No sh*t! Coming round a wet island on the way home tonight, 2nd gear around 1500rpm. All of a sudden it's revving its nuts off and I'm doing some serious understeering  This morning I was in traffic following a micra in 1st when it decided to take off. Thankfully it just wheelspun without accelerating and I was able to get on the clutch quickly enough and jab the throttle

This is getting dangerous, but have you seen how much the dealers want for a new pot???
