What should I do - Crashed car

Post by vroomtshh »

I bought a 406 2.0 16v GLX Auto a few months ago, as it was going cheap. Car has 70k miles, FSH, bodywork was immaculate, and running spot on. Tax to end of feb, MOT to october.

Now today, my GF thought that it would look better if she added a crash barrier to the front of it .

She spun and hit the front of the barrier. Drivers side headlight and wing are mangled, half the bumper has come off, rear door has a small scuff and rear bumper has a small scuff.

Now, to sell it, I know its not worth a fortune, but I had never planned to keep it as I already have enough cars as it is

So now I need to decide what to do. Whats it worth spares or repair?

Should I fix it. I can get 2nd hand parts easily and can do all the work myself, so I reckon no more than £150 to fix. But I would only be fixing it to sell on, so would it be easier to just let it go the way it is. No damage to anywhere else on the car.

The other option is to pull it apart. Everything bar the parts i mentioned is mint, but 406 parts are plentiful. The engine and brakes MIGHT be of use to someone as a conversion but its not a hugely sought after engine (128bhp ish model)

So what should I do?

If you can fix it up for £150 I'd do that to be honest! It'd be a lot easier to shift for half decent money!

aye, it's well under the 100k psychological barrier, so you should be able to fetch a good few quid for it if you do it up, especially if it's a D9

probably not on here though - old age and high miles are signs of reliability for us :lol:

I have no idea what a D9 is.

But I'm gonna sell it as is. Had a look in daylight and it has a bust rad and power steering pipe too.

Still cheap enough to fix, definitely no structural damage but I just cant be bothered with the hassle just now.

I dont know what a D9 is. I'm in New Cumnock, Scotland

Checked it over more thoroughly yesterday and it also has a broken power steering pipe and burst radiator. The rad isn;t too bad, but wouldn;t be up to driving every day.

D8 = 1996 - 1999

D9 = 1999 - 2004 (facelift model)
