I opened the bonnet and it was gone!!

Post by Welly »

Tinkering with the 406 on Saturday [read: stealing the Phillips bulbs for the volvo] I noticed the floor underneath  my undertray has vanished!!

Looking underneath all that remains are a couple of lonely tie-wraps

Thing is - where is it? :? I never heard a thing! do they literally break free and then do an impression of a high speed tea tray? I wouldn't want to have been following me at the time

Maybe there's a 406 undertray thief about?

It's a shame though, I quite liked my undertray, we've been together for 3 years :(

Strange that you didn't hear or feel something... maybe it happened in the snow? :?

Ah that's possible cos I had to go to Melton last week and there was a fair ridge of slushy snow in the centre of the road and I remember thinking that it was passing directly under the sump at the time so yes I suppose the snow ripped it off :(

Lucky though cos it's a fair lump that undertray and it could have taken out a fuel line on it's way out

Well whoever ordered it new didn't order the 'Winter Pack'

As with most cars now you start at the bottom and add 'Packs' to spec it up and add lots of ££££££

I have the remnants of a tray in my garden from my uncles 406 if anyone wants it. My tray is well secured, its going nowhere. My last 406's one was gone when i bought it and when i went through any kind of puddle a load of steam came from the back and the check engine light came on.

The upsetting thing is I wasn't the last person to 'fiddle' with it - my Garage were and I trusted that with the benefit of the car being up on ramps they'd have done a better job than me of bodging it back on :frown:

I don't even trust garages to shut the bonnet properly after the incident that saw the tubby scrapped...
