La Grande Bière

Post by mjb »

I'm sitting here supping away at can after can of Stella (I'm out of proper stuff so I'm on the 5.0% stuff ) and I've noticed that the 568ml (pint) cans are no longer called "La Grande Bière"

Here's the thing that's just occurred to me: Leuven, where Stella's always been brewed, is in the Flemish region so the language spoken there has always been Dutch not French, so it should be "De Grote Bier", not the French "La Grande Bière"!

I think I may have to try to find time to nip back to the beautiful city and ask them in person. I need more Stella merch anyhow

I'm supping on a can of tangle foot cos it was cheap at Tescos!
Just spent the evening down A&E with my wife, she had a mirena coil fitted yesterday to ease her period pains and she's been crippled with pain since :(
I took the day off work to deal with the kids as she was just about coping with the pain but it got to 4pm and she couldn't take any more. 6 hours down A&E, they're keeping her in over night and I'm just cooking my tea. Keep your fingers crossed for her my friends, I'm all played out.

Sounds painful. At least it's a known quantity, so hopefully there's likely no chance of anything escalating past discomfort (albeit extreme)? I know from experience with my back that painkillers can be extremely effective and somewhat enjoyable once they kick in

She's been on solpadol and voltarol today but they weren't really touching the pain; they'd just given her some morphine when I left so hopefully Em will get a bit of sleep.
The trouble is my wife suffers with endometriosis which she's had operated on twice, one of the doctors reckons they may have snagged some scar tissue when they inserted the coil :(
Oh on top of that I could barely get the car started when I left, it was missing on one cylinder like a bastard for a couple of minutes :frown:
You ever come across that Matt? I changed the plugs and leads to try and rectify it a couple of months ago, and of course it's intermittent

Solpadol's a weak version of my co-codamols (painkillers), 15/500mg iirc, and Voltarol is a brand of diclofenac sodium - the anti-imflammatories I'm on. It's not strong stuff, but if you give it time and try to divert your attention it does its stuff quite well behind your back... Morphine works though... ;)

Nah, my tubby was solid, despite a noisy cylinder 3 injector and iffy TPS/ICV. I've seen what one of those buggers is like on only one cylinder though, christ, i thought i was going to jump out the engine bay and bounce down the street

What I've come to realise is no matter how clever a 4-stroke and its electronic periphery, it all comes down to spark, fuel, air and compression. If you've changed plugs and leads, it will be sparking if it runs at all, since the coil pack has only 2 coils. You ain't likely going to be blocking the air, so I'd suspect the injector first

Hopefully Jasper will pipe up with something more helpful than my nearly-drunk ramblings, but on that engine you can very easily spot an ignition or injector fault by pulling the injector connectors and HT leads in order.

They've removed the coil but she's still in a lot of pain. They were talking about exploratory surgery last night if the pain didn't subside  The worry is, because she's had endometriosis in the past we've been told the coil may have re-triggered it.
Outlaws are picking up our youngest and having him for a week to give Em a chance to convalesce; I can deal with Ben cos it's just school runs which I can fit my work around.

I wish your wife well, Teamster, that sounds pretty painful. They kept me in for an extra day when I had morphine after my heart op in november.

Regarding the intermittant misfire, I don't know, maybe some injection cleaner? Make sure all plug lead/coil connections are good, if you can relate it to damp, I would spray WD40 all over the coil pack/s and cover them with a plastic bag.

Best wishes to you all.

Thankyou Jasper and Dai :)

I'll try some injector cleaner, I haven't done that yet
It's strange that it only sometimes happens when the car is first started :?
I have had the engine diag light coming on intermittently during journeys but it hasn't affected the car at all :?

If you want a good beer from Belgische - Hoegaarden FTW! Love that stuff but its really expensive here - $17 AUD for a 4pack! This is compared to a 6 pack of domestic beer which can be bought for around the $13AUD mark!

Teamy - Hope your wife is ok! Doesn't sound too flash - Hoping for a speedy recovery mate!

Sorry to hear this Teamy, it's tricky with the Tea Pot Lids too cos they can't figure out what's up :?

Been there a few times so don't envy you but keep your chin up and I hope all's well.

On a more Beery note - mjb I've just bagged THE LAST 20 x 440ml cans @5.2% 8) from my Tesco's - alas the rest are the crappy 5.0% [read: consume 5 or 6 without really noticing] version :|

Sorry to hear about your wife, Teamy, hope shes over the worst soon.

On the beer front, it looks like you are going to have to research a viable alternative.
