Things aint always wot they seem...

Post by Doggy »

Spent a goodly chunk of today going with my bro to see this 110 Hdi exec estate.

Only it turned out to be a 136 with a blocked particle filter, diesel additive run out, broken comm2000 stalk unit, badly repaired front end, aircon not working, 195 tyres, no undertray, etc. etc. etc.

Now I know we're all grown-ups and need to know what we're doing or buy from a reputable garage, but this one surprised me. It's one thing to take on one of these when you know what you're getting into, (as I did), but this guy knows what he's trying to sell & what's wrong with it and is trying to pass it off as a 110.

2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

I notice it's missing the trim on BOTH wings  looks like it may well have had a pretty serious accident - definitely one to avoid methinks. I wouldn't take it off his hands for £50 let alone £1300 "strictly no offers"

Is it me, or is the front edge of the passenger door very, very rippled from damage coming towards it from the front?

Also missing the badge that side too. And, if I can see it's a different colour looking at a pic on the 'net with my dodgy eyes then it must be glaringly obvious IRL.

Did somebody say fraud? Worth a call to Autotrader themselves to stop some poor booby buying this (probably a) death trap?

I reckon they'll be a lot of snotters around like this soon (even though I can't see the linky doggy :? ) but I get the idea.

My car was heading for a long stay at the car 'rest home' if I hadn't have pitched in with a huge overhaul but they'll be quite a few 406's just hanging by a thread in the next few years.

The 136 is a fine machine but needs planned maintenance and money spending on it - something which is alien to many motorists :|

Is there no way of "reporting" dodgy adverts on autotrader? I can't see a link?
