Alright, who's nicked it!!!!

Post by Dan224 »

Only had the car since Feb and, as suggested on here, I checked everything was working and nothing was missing, lovely car, cheap, so I got it. No major problems with it until today, joining the motorway at about 55mph and BANG, car starts pulling to the left (luckly) so gets onto the hard shoulder and takes a look, tyres blown, no big deal, empty the boot, get the tyre out, find the locking nut, jack the car up..... jack the car up.... fcuk where's the bloody jack!!!!! Do you know how embarrasing it is to call the RAC out to change the tyre of a 30yr old bloke? So the moral is, when your going to get a car, check it has everything, because sods law says that the bit thats missing is the bit you need!!

Dan

PS, anyone got a spare Jack? :cheesy:

You're going to hate me for this, really hate me, but you know how everyone in here keeps on about water in the footwells, and checking the spare wheel well for water... big 406 problem... should check before buying a 406... *hides*

Should be able to pick up one quite cheaply from ebay, and while you're filling the spare wheel well, get yourself a wheel brace like this one I got from Halfords:

They work miracles with security wheel nuts because you ONLY put rotational pressure on the nut, not some half-arsed lopsided twisting motion like you get with one-handed wrenches. I've been able to remove locking nuts with ease that the other types just can't stop from slipping out. Definitely one of my best tool buys.

Tool 'KIT' :? all we get is a Jack  the one-armed wheel brace, a towing eye, and some weird thing I never figured out (like a little pry-bar hooky thing?). Oh and every bootwell comes with a complimentary 1p piece, a pay and display ticket from 2001, and an old lolly stick.

Mine came with a space saver spare (pretty povvo), the jack, crowbar/wheelbrace, towhook and the pair of gloves! They are white and blue with Peugeot written all over them - obviously you guys didn't get them!

I've just checked on the Gloves thing Joel and it appears the Australians don't like getting there hands dirty or working hard so the Gloves were added as a condiition of the import specification :)

The towing eye has a little screwdriver-like end on it to help you open the flaps over the holes the eye screws into

There's also the wheel stud nobody apart from me appears to use (see above picture, I have it in the top hole). Screw it into the disc/hub before offering the wheel up, and it makes locating it a lot easier.

I got a pair of black+white Peugeot gloves with the tubby. it has grippy bits over the fingers. Very useful if you need to change wheels on the way to a job interview (been there, done that). Not suited to doing anything else though

As weel as the usual tols etc., I have half an inch of fur, inunmerable twigs, a few leaves, several seriously knawed sticks and two or three pet rocks - all despite having the carpet in place, then the official Pug load liner, then several blankets.
This is a minor irritation, what really bugs me is the unused full-size spare c/w 205/60/VR15 Michelin that I can't use cos of the stupid alloys
